As a grassroots CBO, @LAGInitiative believes that when girls understand their rights, receive menstrual hygiene support, and are informed about the harms of #FGM, they are empowered to say no. Many find the courage to speak out, seek protection, and escape the practice.
On Human Rights Day, we reaffirm that the everyday essentials of human rights include the right to live free from all forms of violence and harmful practices—because dignity is not optional, and protection from FGM is non-negotiable. #HumanRightsDay2025#EndFGM
Freedom from FGM is an essential human right—just as vital as access to food, health, education, and safety. FGM is a serious violation of a person’s dignity, bodily autonomy, and fundamental freedoms.
We believe that when girls are empowered, they find their voice, build confidence, and thrive — no matter the challenges they face. Our girls can dream big, but sometimes they just need to hear it from someone else — that they’re not too young to dream, not too small to lead, and
never too late to shine.
That’s why we grab every opportunity to spend time with them — sharing stories, knowledge, and encouragement. Yesterday, we spent a beautiful day at Murkutwo Comprehensive School, talking with our girls during this long holiday.
But we also stand in solidarity with those whose voices are silenced by harmful practices like female genital mutilation (FGM) — a violation of rights that robs millions of girls of their health, dignity, and future.

Did you know that girls who undergo FGM often carry the trauma in silence? It impacts their:
- Physical health: infections, chronic pain, childbirth complications
- Mental health: anxiety and depression
- Rights: education, autonomy, and dignity

On the playground, laughter should unite girls—not divide them. Yet stigma fueled by FGM turns friends into strangers. Cut girls are told they are “women,” uncut girls are shamed as “children.” FGM steals Childhoods. No girl should be judged for saying to no to the cruel cut.
The AMUA SASA! project is not just about providing information—it is about sparking confidence, building resilience, and nurturing a generation of empowered girls who are ready to shape their own stories. @OrchidProject@GirlsNotBrides@irep_foundation#EndFGM#AMUASASA
@Laginitiative held an exciting activity under the AMUA SASA! Project, in Sambalat, Marakwet East, bringing together adolescent girls for a meaningful conversation on education, mentorship, and life skills.
The activity reminded us that when adolescent girls are given the right knowledge, mentorship, and encouragement, they can dream bigger, overcome challenges, and step into their futures with courage.
