Whenever we hand iftar or food parcels to these individuals, we do not expect them to say "Thank you or Jazakulah khairan" We simply tell them that "Difficulties in life are a test of how strong their relationship is with Allah [swt] and surely with hardship comes ease” (Quran 94:5): 

Through our willingness to help others, we sometimes learn to be thankful and happy rather than depressed
