#TomCruise’s films have generated $5.3 billion domestically and $13.1 billion worldwide in theaters according to our exclusive @RentrakMoviesUS @RentrakGlobal data - Those numbers are extraordinary, but the box office is only part of what makes his career interesting to me.
Look at the filmmakers he’s chosen to work with: Stanley Kubrick, Oliver Stone, Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Spielberg, Michael Mann, Brian De Palma, Cameron Crowe, Martin Scorsese and now Alejandro González Iñárritu. That list says a lot about his love and understanding of filmmaking. He’s a movie star, certainly, but I also think he’s a true cinephile.
The trailer for @warnerbros @diggerthemovie has me a cautious but intrigued, but I’ve learned never to judge a movie before seeing it. What I appreciate is that @TomCruise, at this point in his career, is still finding new ways to reinvent himself. He could keep making @MissionFilm's forever. Instead, he’s taking a chance on something different, and I'm here for it!

🎬🧟‍♂️ There’s nothing scary about these #Horror box office numbers. @SonyPictures��� #ResidentEvil from @zcregger is off to a truly evil start, earning $8.8M in Thursday previews from 3,166 locations. 🔥
That $8.8M puts it in impressive company: Backrooms started with $10.4M in preshows before opening to $81.4M; Scream 7 turned $7.8M into $63.6M, while Scary Movie started with $7.7M before opening to $54.3M. Wherever #ResidentEvil winds up Sunday, one of the biggest horror openings of the year and a top-three finish are very much in play. 🎥
According to #Rentrak, horror had already generated $1.101 BILLION domestically through Sept. 16. That compares with $1.163B for all of 2017, the first year horror crossed $1B, and the record $1.426B in 2025. 🎬 Introducing our brand new #Rentrak Sunday Box Office Countdown!
In Episode 1, I break down the weekend’s biggest movies, the numbers behind the rankings and a few of the stories that made this such an interesting frame at the box office.
✨ @PracticalMagic 2 conjured up the No. 1 spot with a $30 million domestic debut and $46 million worldwide.
🕷️ @SpiderManMovie swung into second place with $8.4 million, bringing its incredible domestic total to $935.2 million.
⚔️ @odysseymovie sailed past the $600 million domestic milestone with another $7.4 million.
🏃 @RunnerMovie raced into fourth place with $6.7 million.
🐺 @CoyoteACMEMovie continued its remarkable run with $6.2 million for the weekend and $47.8 million to date.
🎸 And from the Owens sisters to the Gallagher brothers, we close things out with a little serious sibling magic as the Oasis concert film earned $1.4 million domestically and approximately $8.2 million worldwide. Having seen Liam and Noel at the Rose Bowl reunion show, I can tell you that the IMAX experience brought back some incredible memories.
The overall domestic marketplace totaled $83.4 million, with the top 10 films contributing $74.7 million. Year to date domestic box office now stands at a whopping $7.496 billion, up 19.2% over 2025.

Really great working with Jonathan Landrum Jr. (@MrLandrum31) at @AP on a fine Sunday box office morning. He is such a terrific reporter and always great to talk movies and the marketplace with him on this first weekend of the Fall movie season.
Regarding @PracticalMagic 2, “It’s the kind of movie that you can build an evening at the movie theater around with your friends,” said Paul Dergarabedian head of marketplace trends at #Rentrak.
“It’s not necessarily about that opening weekend,” he said. “Weekend two will tell the tale, no question about it.”
“Think about this movie opening at the end of July, and here we are in the middle of September,” Dergarabedian said.
“People aren’t just looking at the movie theater as the home for the traditional cookie-cutter blockbuster,” he said. “They’re looking at the movie theater like they do almost as a streaming service, where there’s this incredible array and mix of genres, stars and types of films.”
“What a great summer, a record-breaking summer and a solid start to the fall,” Dergarabedian said. “It’s not like we had a blockbuster debut like we did last year with ‘Demon Slayer,’ but a solid start to a fall movie season that I think will deliver for sure.”
