Today, members of the World Food Forum (WFF) Rwanda Chapter joined communities across different districts of Rwanda in the monthly Umuganda, demonstrating the power of collective action in building our communities.
In Gasabo District, youth joined residents in preparing their community for the upcoming heavy rainfall season, highlighting the importance of early preparedness and disaster risk reduction.
In Musanze District, members worked with the community to renovate drainage channels that manage volcanic water flowing toward lowland areas. This activity emphasized how proper land and water management protects farmland, safeguards livelihoods, and strengthens food security.
In Bugesera District, youth participated in constructing a bridge connecting Gakamba and Rukora villages, improving mobility and access while showcasing how local solutions can address community challenges through teamwork and shared responsibility.
Across all these activities, one message stood out: stronger communities are built when people come together to take action. Whether preparing for heavy rains, protecting agricultural land, managing water resources, or improving infrastructure, today’s Umuganda reflected the values of resilience, sustainability, and community leadership.
As we look ahead to LCOY Rwanda 2026, these experiences remind us that climate action begins at the local level. Building climate-resilient communities is not only about discussions and policies, it is about communities , especially young people, taking action where they live. The lessons from today’s Umuganda demonstrate how youth can contribute to climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, environmental stewardship, and sustainable food systems.
Together, we are building communities that are better prepared for climate challenges
