More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
So yesterday Donald Trump posted a video of him crashing Stephen Colbert's final show, and literally throwing him in the garbage, and of course, I had to FIX it.
This is the repugnant character of a man who has spent his entire life expecting others to clean up his mess. A person completely incapable of taking responsibility—even for the smallest gesture.
This is precisely what makes him so dangerous and unsuitable as president: Someone who treats everything like dirt and expects his subordinates to clean up after him will treat a country the same way. Without respect, without a sense of responsibility, without any consideration for those who will come after him.
This is not the kind of character one wishes upon the president of the United States. This is the character of a spoiled, ruthless egomaniac.
What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.
Michelle Obama:
“Let's be very clear.
Strong men don't need to put down women
to make themselves feel powerful.
Real strength lifts others up.
Real power brings people together.”
