Much of the land in Kiambu, rich in fertile red soil, has been snatched up by real estate developers who are putting up structures where plantations dominated once. This isn't sustainable for a country that wants to become self-reliant in feeding its population.
When conducting our farm visits, we came across plots in Kiambu that were once used for farming. However ,they are now bare with owners attributing it to lack of water for irrigation activities .
Upon further inquiry, we were informed by one of the #farmers that this particular crop enjoys a consistent demand, thereby ensuring stable and favorable pricing in the #markets. This has proved to be a crucial factor in their choice of crop selection.
Our field assessments have revealed that greenhouse farming practices have garnered significant popularity among farmers in Kiambu region, particularly with regards to the cultivation of bell peppers.
@DarinaReFi - @CoffeeCarbonCo, pal from @MRV1O1 interested agroecology & focused carbon reductions achieved switching synthetic to organic fertilizer :)
@LCSolutionske - LimaChain! end-to-end data platform to unlock technological innovation for smallholder ag producers 7/
Some of the challenges they faced were ;
-Lack of a consistent market
-High fertilizer cost
-Lack of expertise on #climate smart practices.

We make it simple for farmers to focus on their business, while we take care of everything else - saving them time so they can focus more on what they do best: grow more crops
We bring the knowledge gap between farmers and technology down to zero, allowing farmers to interact directly with service providers that understand what they need. With no lock-in contracts, complicated terms and conditions, or uncertainties involved in using digital platforms.
Our platform will enable you to join the growing global movement of data experts, digital farmers and agronomists motivated by data that solves problems and provides solutions.#buildinpublic
With Limachain you can access high quality, reliable and consistent data about your farm for the first time. It is an open platform made to connect farmers and agribusinesses to the global data economy. #buildinpublic
These detailed insights could be used by any farmer or #agribusiness working in the field to better target their market and improve service delivery. Limachain is the missing link in the #data chain between farmers and agricultural software.
🧵Look at the world around you and it's hard to believe that farmers, who spend much of their day on the land, are under-utilizing their data. The same customers who buy what they see and taste also have access to how much their crops were watered, fertilized, and harvested.
Our mission is to bridge farmers to innovative platforms that are changing the face of agribusiness, empowering them to be change makers in their communities.
