I am convinced that Trinidadian companies don’t actually want to hire people. How exactly does one acquire 10 years of experience in a specific industry within a specific role, be ACCA and PMP certified and be fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

What needs to be addressed is the oftentimes, plantocracy that exists in the workplace. Managers in the Caribbean space seem to think that a productive workplace environment is one where their subordinates are seen as threats to their rule.

I equally understand the challenge of our post colonial culture of anti-authoritarianism in the workplace. Yet I tend to, as a leader, subscribe to the view that managers ought not stifle or kill young talent simply because one’s ego might be bruised.

For those who have experienced losing a loved one. It’s ok to be depressed sometimes. It’s not ok to destroy yourself in your grief. Get addicted to something positive and you will find your way.

Today marks 5years since I lost my brother. I’ve achieved a lot since then and although I can’t share that with him physically I know that I’ve made him proud.
