As a board-certified urologist that specializes in sexual health for ALL sexes... I mean this when I say "medical sexism is real." Men and women are not getting the same level of care, access to care or even scientific integrity in their care.
Much of what’s called “burnout” in healthcare has less to do with poor working conditions—no worse than they were 20 years ago—than growing disillusionment. It’s increasingly hard to believe that our work is part of the solution rather than perpetuating our for-profit problem. 7/
And it’s not just patients who need these systems to help generate a satisfying sense of meaning & purpose. We as doctors, therapists, social workers, nurses, & caregivers need this. Working in our failing US healthcare system is intensely demoralizing. We need more, together. 6/
And so I wasn’t sure what to tell the student at Oxford. We have to keep doing the work of resisting the growth of state surveillance, state violence, and aggregation of wealth. We have to build power and be in mutual aid and solidarity with the most vulnerable.
Under capitalism, individual triumphs are used to ignore systemic failures and when systemic failures are exposed, individual actors are blamed to keep the system at large in tact.
Democrats are doing a great job of proving that the whole system has to be overthrown, that electing them to power is not a solution b/c they are aligned with corporations & not communities.

Nobody I recognize, but then again, his face is blurry and indistinct.
