#DidYouKnow our @LFBMuseum uses special boxes for historical objects? These detailed scale models are supported by tissue, & stored inside boxes, which are both acid-free. This helps to preserve the materials they are made of for future generations to enjoy! #FireFactsFriday
Eltham Fire Station opened 120 years ago this month! 🎉 #DidYouKnow the circular window is called a roundel. It is placed inside a curved pediment, a feature of neoclassical architecture – inspired by ancient times. More here https://t.co/ukpKc8s6F6 #LFBFireStations@LFBGreenwich

11th November 1918 marked the end of #WWI. Although mostly fought in Europe, over 900 bombs were dropped on London. We remember the 3 firefighters killed in London & the 29 firefighters who died whilst serving in the forces in WW1. https://t.co/5x2AhBEZYp #FireFactsFriday
Thanks @PaintingsLondon for sharing this impactful painting in our collection. Both the subject Gillian 'Bobbie' Tanner & the artist Mary Pitcairn were Auxiliary Firewomen. They had bravely volunteered to join the Auxiliary Fire Service in #WWII to protect London & Londoners.
#DidYouKnow each fire insurance company brigade, created after #TheGreatFireofLondon in the 1680s, wore distinctive & brightly coloured uniforms? Until 1833 when the London Fire Engine Establishment formed & a single uniform was introduced https://t.co/Fld7bnzPQB #FireFactsFriday
Fulham Fire Station is our 2nd oldest operational fire station at 128 year old! Its Grade II listed & considered an excellent example of Victorian chief architect Robert Pearsall’s style. The station's Open Day is on 31 October https://t.co/c30DOBFoht #FireFactsFriday@LFBHamFul
#DidYouKnow after #WW2 fire service personnel trialled an ex-military DUKW, also well-known as a ‘duck’, as an alternative fire engine? Testing if it could bypass damaged roads or more easily access flooded areas. However, it wasn't put into service in the UK #FireFactsFriday
@river_rowing@RBFRSofficial@LondonFire If you want to know anymore general information about some of the equipment, uniform or tools featured in the image we'd be happy to try to help. Just pop us an email at [email protected] 🚒
@river_rowing@RBFRSofficial@LondonFire What a wonderful image @river_rowing, so much going on! That looks like a horse-drawn steam fire engine. They were invented in 1829 & gained popularity from the 1860s. So it's possible that it could have been taken a bit earlier. @LondonFire started to phase them out during #WW1
Our firefighters tested the Brigade’s emergency response to a fire @RAFMuseum#London last week as part of a training exercise at Hendon’s former aerodrome.

Looks fantastic @bexhillmuseum and great in the exhibition space too!
Nice opportunity for us to share our steam fire engine! It was manufactured by Shand Mason in around 1890, and used by the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, which became @LondonFire Brigade in 1904! 🚒
Have you been to see our new exhibit yet? #Bexhill’s first fire engine! It’s a beauty, even if we do say so ourselves. Purchased for the town in 1895 it was in service for the next 26 years. Horse drawn and steam powered…
