@educationCPD@learnbylayers Hiya, have been on courses run by both of you before I know weโd happily look at hosting a session. We are just outside Burton if thatโs any good?
@LiamTAnderson Yeah we use frayed models throughout 7-12. We even experiment with the 4 sections around them. Really use for retrieval of knowledge and to add a new layer to students current understanding.
@MrSDineen Sharing your passions with them and showing them how this new skills or knowledge has impacted my life. They donโt have to be the same passions, but find something and never compromise on the passion you have for that topic/ subject.

Our annual Summer Showcase took place earlier this month.
It showcased the outstanding work created by our Art, DT, Textiles, Product Design, and Food Technology students throughout the year and was then followed by live performances by Drama and Music students in the theatre.
@hardy_alison @DavidRobertsDT @MrsGMcLeanDT @QueensSch_DT It feels forced to call this design as itโs very rarely creative/ innovative. I remember having this debate with you at NTU and Iโve still not seen good โdesigningโ and use of โtechnologyโ. It just feels like a loose or best fit in my opinion.
@hardy_alison @DavidRobertsDT @MrsGMcLeanDT @QueensSch_DT With my previous life as a chef, I always have a small eye on the industry that I love. However, I believe that it best answers the bridge between all subjects mentioned with nutrition, health and well being. It pulls together and applies knowledge of science, PE, PSHCE etc.
@hardy_alison @DavidRobertsDT @MrsGMcLeanDT @QueensSch_DT 4 me D&T and FD should part ways as designing with food (IME) is usually confined to swapping ingredients from a dish previously cooked, drawing a cross section of cake or a response to a nutritional case study.
@hardy_alison @DavidRobertsDT @MrsGMcLeanDT @QueensSch_DT The other issue which I think is sometimes missed is what is the epistemology of food. It suffers from the same issues as D&T in the fact teachers are divided on it purpose. Is it a life skill, vocation or health and nutrition lessons.
@hardy_alison @DavidRobertsDT @MrsGMcLeanDT @QueensSch_DT Iโm a big advocate of the food science element and we have this in our core principles as you discussed in the pod. We link it food science but also things like recipe modification etc. Again science teacher great lessons on health and digestion butโฆ
@hardy_alison @DavidRobertsDT @MrsGMcLeanDT @QueensSch_DT The in-depth teaching of nutrition and all of the nuisances of Food preparation and nutrition would be skimmed down to fit into an already bulging science curriculum.
