“People complain about new sales taxes to me all the time,” state Rep. @lgwillner said. “’Why do I have to pay taxes on taking my dog to the vet?’ ‘Why do I have to pay taxes on my gym membership or to take an exercise class?’”
Good questions.

Bad Bill Alert = Majority Party silences opposing voice that identifies the “badness” by limiting debate. It has already happened today on the 1st debate on final passage of HB5. Silencing voices is anti-democracy. Anti-American. Today I have been silenced and denied speech.
The KY House has passed House Bill 199, which would legalize freestanding birthing centers and bring us in line with 43 other states. State Rep. @lgwillner said these centers "are an important tool in improving maternal health outcomes for both mother and infant."
State Rep. @lgwillner said the research is clear: Vouchers and other forms of public funding used for private education "have been shown to be ineffective, inefficient and inequitable."
OP/ED by state Rep. @lgwillner: "We need to reject these (extreme, out-of-state) ideas and return to the days when we focus on legislation designed by and for the people we in the General Assembly are elected to serve." #KYGA24

Congratulations to state Reps. Lindsey Burke and Lisa Willner (who could not attend) for receiving @NASWKY's Social Justice Star Award this afternoon. March is #SocialWorkMonth, and both legislators were recognized for their outsized contributions to the profession. #KYGA24
Rough day in Frankfort. The Ky House passed HB255 - a bill pushed by the Florida-based, billionaire-funded, right-wing Foundation for Gov Accountability - that guts child labor laws.
State Rep. @lgwillner pointed out that KY is "already one of the most dangerous places in the country to be a child" because of issues like child abuse and poverty. "Unfortunately, House Bill 255 will only make things even worse for Kentucky's vulnerable children."
HB115 passes the House 93-0! It prohibits cost-sharing for any covered diagnostic breast exam or supplemental breast exam required under fed law. Now it’s on to the Senate! Thank you to bill sponsors! @5boymom, @drdanbentley, @lgwillner @RepJosieRaymond! #KYGA24@SusanGKomen
State Rep. @lgwillner spoke today in support of HB 115, which would improve health-insurance coverage for breast examinations. The bill passed unanimously & Rep. Willner dedicated her "Yes" vote to @LtGovColeman for the bravery she has shown in her breast-cancer journey. #KYGA24
HB115, which we support, passes out of committee! The bill prohibits cost-sharing for any covered diagnostic breast exam or supplemental breast exam if required under fed law. Thank you to bill sponsors: @5boymom, @drdanbentley, @lgwillner @RepJosieRaymond! #KYGA24@SusanGKomen
"There is a path to a safer Kentucky, and it's right at the intersection of justice, public safety and public health," state Rep. @lgwillner said, citing two particular needs requiring more attention: Affordable housing and improved access to mental healthcare.
I was very glad to see @A_Young210 in Frankfort today. I’m so proud of his steadfast work & commitment to protecting kids. And grateful for our bipartisan & successful efforts to finally put an end to corporal punishment in KY’s public schools!
