"House of the Rising Sun" is a traditional American folk ballad with origins dating back to at least the early 1900s, though its exact history remains uncertain. One popular theory links it to a New Orleans establishment called the Rising Sun. Inspired by Bob Dylan's 1962 recording, The Animalstransformed the song into a electric rock arrangement in 1964.
Released as a single, it spent three weeks at #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the UK Singles Chart. It became the first #1 hit by a British band in the United States with a non-original song, helping define the sound of the British Invasion.

"Gotta Go Home" is from Boney M.'s 1979 album Oceans of Fantasy. The upbeat disco track became a major European hit, peaking at #12 on the UK Singles Chart, #1 in West Germany, and reaching the Top 5 in several other European countries. In some markets, it was released as a double A-side with "El Lute."
The song is an adaptation of the 1973 German track "Hallo Bimmelbahn" by Nighttrain. Despite its success across Europe, it became Boney M.'s first single since their debut not to reach the UK Top 10.
Check out this 1928 Tommy gun in a violin case
The image of a Thompson submachine gun hidden inside a violin case has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the American Prohibition era.
Known as the “Tommy gun,” the weapon was designed by General John T. Thompson shortly after World War I and entered production in 1921. Thompson originally intended it to serve as a military “trench broom,” but the war ended before it could be used in combat.
Instead, the weapon gained notoriety during the 1920s and early 1930s when organized crime groups adopted it for its rapid rate of fire and large drum magazines. The idea of gangsters carrying Thompsons in violin cases became a lasting cultural image, fueled by newspapers, Hollywood, and crime fiction. While some criminals may have used instrument cases for concealment, historians note that everyday transportation more often involved suitcases, coat bags, or specially designed cases.
The 1928 Thompson model featured a reduced rate of fire compared with earlier versions, making it more manageable to operate. During World War II, thousands were acquired by the U.S. military and Allied forces, where the weapon moved beyond its gangster reputation and became a respected firearm used by troops in both Europe and the Pacific.
Although forever linked with Prohibition-era crime, the Thompson’s history was largely military. More than 1.5 million were produced, with the overwhelming majority manufactured for armed forces rather than criminal organizations.
