They are likely rebalancing loot progression from time to skill - which if successful could turn out as another gamedesign masterstroke by this team, potentially evolving the whole genre. Trust.

It's not just about time. With handwritten program text, you also get a deeper and more meaningful connection to the resulting artifact, useful for further evolution, maintenance, trust, reliability etc.
It didn't "think" anything - I'd strongly advise to actively discard the mental model of a human author when reading generated code, as it can systematically damage your intuitions. A slightly better mental model is "generated legacy code as a service".
