Delays posted @LIRRstatus
The numbers are in, and boy was 2018 a rough one for the LIRR...
Performance decreased in every major quality of service metric during 2018, including; trains late, trains canceled, average delay, total minutes of delay, and on time performance.
Stay tuned tomorrow for more!
Despite being within line of sight of Jamaica station, nearly 400 passengers sat on a crowded derailed train for over 2 hours before being evacuated. Shame on the MTA, what a disgrace!
Two cars of the 8:56PM train from Penn due Babylon at 10:11PM derailed just east of Jamaica. No injuries have been reported at this time. A rescue train is on scene. We will update you shortly.
@rego_arego896 "So, either you're going to be basically on time, or your going to completely miss your first two meetings today - there's no in between?" - my boss
LIRR is currently experiencing delays of 5-10 minutes and some cancellations due to this morning’s third rail problem west of Jamaica. Crews are working to address the issue. However, delays may increase to 30-60 minutes depending on time needed for repairs.
This isn't the full story. Train left Penn 5 minutes late, no big deal. Then, but then after getting 75% through tunnel comes to a sudden stops and reverses back to Penn - wrong tunnel apparently. Continues forward again, stops once more and reverses - wrong tunnel again...
The 7:08PM train from Penn due Babylon at 8:20PM has departed 37 minutes late after making a reverse move in order to operate around a switch problem west of Woodside.
Raymond Murphy, LIRR's biggest overtime abuser, was caught sitting at home on 10 occasions while on the clock. "In one five-day period in May, he claimed to have worked 114 of a possible 120 hours."
He was allowed to retire before he could be disciplined

@c3pohara@AirlineFlyer Figure a stop at Jamaica takes what, 2 minutes, tops? When you look at the morning schedule there are actually surprisingly few trains stopping at Jamaica. Makes the AirTrain a less viable option in the mornings to me personally
Conductor: "This train does not stop at Jamaica. No Jamaica. No Jamaica. We do not, do not, do not stop at Jamaica. No Jamaica stop"
[2 minutes later]
Guy next to me: "Does this train stop at Jamaica?"
@AirlineFlyer Update: much to this gentleman's displeasure, w did not stop at Jamaica. This is shocking news. If only they had made an announcement during boarding...
@AirlineFlyer Passing St. Albans now so we'll find out soon.. Silly because he has luggage and is clearly trying to catch the AirTrain, probably should have paid more attention
Hot topic on the train this morning was last night's debate, but nobody seemed to remember that DeBlasio eats his pizza for a fork and knife

Once can only hope it's not the same signal personnel who were working at Westbury minutes ago, seeing that they were utterly incompetent at completing that project in a timely and efficient manner
Due to signal trouble at Jamaica, customers can anticipate 30-45 minute westbound delays through the area. Signal personnel are on scene. We'll update you shortly.
Signal workers milking some extra overtime from the weekend bridge work, massive delays due to unrelated signal issues at Jamaica, and the guy next to me is eating tuna fish for breakfast... Just another Monday morning on the Long Island Failroad
Huntington/Port Jefferson & Ronkonkoma Branch customers are experiencing 20-30 minute delays and some cancellations as trains operate at reduced speed through Carle Place. Crews are finishing track & signal work related to the Cherry Lane Bridge Replacement Project.
de Blasio was born as Warren Wilhelm Jr and legally changed his name soley to aid in name recognition for political reasons. He will now be traveling the country campaigning for the election while ignoring the serious work that needs to be done in NYC https://t.co/YRWpkW5yib
@AirlineFlyer@NYCMayor Elsewhere in Europe, the majority of the bin itself is housed underground, taking up less space on sidewalks. Either way, light years ahead of NYC
NYC Uber and Lyft drivers are going on strike tomorrow morning in protest of low wages. Ironically, as soon as they do so the lack of drivers available will likely cause all of NYC to go into surge pricing, so any driver greedy enough to ignore the strike will be raking in fares
Riding the LIRR on the weekend sure is... interesting...
Moments ago;
Daytripper A: "Which way is the dining car?"
Conductor: "Yeah, we don't do that"
Daytripper B: "Does this train stop at Mineola?"
Conductor: "No this is the Bablyon branch... Also, you bought peak tickets..."
Per @empirecenter Phil Eng, new LIRR President, earned $294,243 in '18. Under his tenure LIRR overtime spending increased 30% (or $50 million) totaling $224 million in '18. There's also been a 45% increase in overall payroll since '08 while number of employees increased just 9.6%
"Nine of the top 10 overtime earners in the MTA in 2018 worked for the LIRR, including surfacing foreman Dallas Bazemore III, who made $279,289 in overtime. Track worker Marco Pazmino earned a regular salary of just under $55,000, but fattened his pay with another $256,177 in OT"
.@nypost: "While delays on LIRR hit a 19-year high in '18, chief measurement operator Thomas Caputo brought home a $461,646 paycheck. Caputo is “one of only a few people” who can operate an “advanced track-geometry car,” which checks for rail defects"
