90% of skin cancers are preventable and education is key to combatting the disease.
That’s why Skcin are dedicated to the prevention and early detection of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer through educational intervention.
Skcin are the UK’s leading skin cancer awareness charity specialising in prevention & early detection of skin cancer through educational intervention. Our mission is to save lives & suffering from melanoma & non-melanoma skin cancer, prevent the disease & improve patient outcomes
Melanoma begins in melanocytes, the cells that produce the pigment melanin that colours the skin, hair & eyes.Melanocytes form moles, where melanoma often, but not always develops.Melanoma often arises from otherwise normal appearing skin(about 75%)or from within a mole or freckle
NMSC - Non-melanoma Skin Cancer is globally the most common form of cancer. 1 in 4 UK males and 1 in 5 UK females will be diagnosed with NMSC in their lifetime - and if diagnosed once, you could have many more!

Whilst amelanotic melanoma is relatively uncommon fatality rates tend to be higher because they often go undetected for longer, are often misdiagnosed because they mimic other skin lesions and are therefore commonly diagnosed at later stages. https://t.co/cAzYIsuTAo
When our skin changes colour, it is our body’s natural reaction to exposure to UV radiation. The pinky, reddish colouration caused by the skin’s adverse reaction also serves as a natural rouge, but be warned that UV radiation is penetrating deep into the skin. Make SPF your BFF!
Check your skin once a month, every month - it’s simply the smartest way to build confidence in detecting potential abnormalities.
If you spot anything new, unusual or changing - get it checked out!

Ever had sunburn as a child or teenager?
Many of us will have experienced sunburn in our younger years as the dangers of UV radiation and risk of skin cancer wasn’t fully understood or public knowledge until relatively recently. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!
With the start of Spring accompanied by sunny skies and an increase in UV levels, we are delighted to be receiving heaps of new registrations as well as annual renewals to our Sun Safe Nurseries National Accreditation Programme! https://t.co/bIzRTLoUdv
