PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
The Pennsylvania all-state basketball teams will be released this afternoon. It gives me a chance to remind folks who our @mcall players of the year were: @GabrielTransue of @BCSPanthersMBB and Justin Manning of @NDGP_Athletics.

Iowa State 5am - 6am early practices and then another practice in afternoon
I’ll keep saying it! Players will respond to whatever you set the mark at for them. If you let them be soft they will, if you hold them accountable they will respond!
Watching a PG dominate a game by passing the ball is special to watch - in a world so hyper focused on scoring, it’s amazing to watch a player dominate by PASSING.
"There is nothing but value in practice."
True development comes from practice time. Not from playing 6 games in a weekend.

“Student-athlete, student comes first…I think being a great student and paying attention in class really sets you up for success.”

Words of wisdom! Too many high school kids and parents are focused on the wrong things.

Too many guys want to look good scoring the ball! More times than not buckets aren’t highlight plays. They are simple, and effective. How many times you see guys miss layups trying to finger roll?? If you ask me, the only thing cool is making the shot!!!
Eugene Edgerson posted this public message on Facebook about his son's Senior Day at Salpointe. Wouldn't expect anything different from Gene. This kind of character goes back to the days I called him over the phone about his recruitment by Arizona when he attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. You could tell then he was raised right. This comment by Gene should be shared to every single parent who has a young athlete as a son or daughter:
"It’s senior night and Jazi didn’t get to play.
I never once walked up to my son’s high school basketball coach about playing time. Not once.
See, that wasn’t my lane.
My job was to raise a young man.
Coach’s job was to run a team.
If my son wanted more minutes, I told him what was told to me:
‘Work so hard they can’t sit you.’
I wasn’t about to teach him that when life feels unfair, you go over somebody’s head. Nah. Life don’t work like that. The world ain’t handing out minutes — you earn them.
I sat in them bleachers quiet.
Clapped when he did well.
Drove him home when he didn’t play.
And in that car, I’d say —
‘You control effort. You control attitude. Everything else? That’s grown man business.’
Too many dads fighting battles their sons need to fight themselves.
Basketball ain’t just about buckets.
It’s about learning how to handle disappointment without folding.
I didn’t need my son to be the star.
I needed him to be solid.
Because one day it won’t be about minutes…
It’ll be about marriage, jobs, pressure, and real-life fourth quarters.
And I refuse to raise a young man who thinks somebody owes him playing time.

Programs still looking for hidden gems need to check out @henry_ye_23! The 2026 guard is LETHAL from the perimeter. Able to provide instant offense as soon as he steps on the court. Tough competitor and high basketball IQ. Definitely worth an inquire! #PACOALITION@PACoalitionAAU@HGSL_HoopGroup

Two players walk into every season.
Player 1 has out-of-this-world, God-given ability… but a weak mindset. When things go wrong, confidence disappears. Pressure feels heavy. The game becomes stressful.
Player 2 has pretty good natural talent, nowhere near Player 1, but has an elite mindset. They control the controllables, welcome adversity, and see pressure as fuel. Their confidence is built from their daily disciplines.
I always ask athletes: Which player ends up with more confidence? More fun? A more rewarding and successful career on and off the field? The answer is obvious.
Talent might open the door. Mindset is what keeps it open. And the best part? Mindset is trainable. Bring it on.
