After dissapearing for a few months because I can't be bothered to be on the internet, I have written about being a delegate at the MNGOP convention last weekend. If you don't want to read it, basically, we are our own worst enemy.

My point with this is spuriousness - porn use is also correlated with other social feelings that themselves would cause abstention. Simple percentage statistics are not always helpful with causal directions, the causal theory comes in to suggest a causal direction. Porn use is positively associated with feeling lonely - this can either be that porn causes loneliness or loneliness drives one to porn use. Both possibilities are logical.

The self-contained theory that I am opposed to is the suggestion that porn and Instagram are the entire reason for the effects noted by Henderson. Neither am I saying that there is no effect.
"from 2010 to 2024 the share of young adults reporting no sex in the past year doubled"
porn and instagram
porn gave men a consequence free outlet that has no rejection or vulnerability without leaving the house. instagram gave women a validation system without intimacy or risk
both made the opposite sex functionally optional for the thing you used to need them for
@illnevercallitx That's literally not the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is on an island in New York (this appears to be Los Angeles) and is much taller. This is some woman who dressed up to make a partisan political point.
I find it a tall order to argue porn and Instagram are entirely explanatory for young adults having less sex, considering Instagram was released in 2010, necessitating time for the negative effects to actually manifest in statistics for so large a population, and would require proliferation widespread enough among women using it in the negative aspect to take an effect on statistics.
For porn use to have such a statistical effect, it's use would also need to be proliferated enough and frequent enough among a similarly large part of the population. Neither add up totally.
Don't forget that governors across the U.S. kept young people as separated as they could for around 18 months during this period. Economic upsets happened multiple times as well, and there are more than a few people who complain about having to give up social activity just to make ends meet (both of which, similarly, can only be partial explanations). The original post (from Henderson) even says that there are many explanations, with porn being one such example.
Many men misunderstand what marriage is for.
They treat it as a lifestyle upgrade instead of a vocation ordered to definite goods.
They think marriage exists to meet their needs (comfort, sex, admiration, peace, etc.).
In reality, marriage binds a man to give himself.
To build a stable domestic society and actively help his wife and children flourish.
@amyklobuchar Your party shut down the state contrary to the constitution and destroyed my generation's future. Take your performative smugness and shove it.
@bofrench@DissidentSoaps This is why we shouldn't have so many elected positions. Good candidates end up running for things like 'railroad commissioner' instead of governor.
A handful of people talking about eventual ostracism from society. I mean, there is a reason my first choice is to go to England, but if my lot is service to the Republic, threatening me with social ostracism feels like the pope trying to excommunicate an atheist.
