Wayne Rooney scored 53 goals in 120 appearances for England. Harry Kane has scored 53 goals in 80 appearances for England. He’s a top, top player and a lovely man.
If your coach holds everyone accountable, you are VERY fortunate. A lot of coaches allow some players to do whatever they want, whenever they want with absolutely no consequence. Discipline, responsibility & accountability are life prep! If your coach cares that much, respect it!
COACHES: Don’t preach accountability if you’re not going to teach and model that very same accountability. Don't just set the standard, but be the standard. Show the standard. Reinforce the standard!
If we want our players to leave their egos behind, we must do the same. It’s a 2-way street. Your players may hear what you say, but they also see how you act. How we treat others is a reflection of how we truly feel about ourselves. Don’t demean. Instead, encourage your players!
Captains, your band comes with responsibilities.
Have you encouraged the ones who are struggling?
Pushed the ones who need a reminder?
Checked in on the freshman to see how they’re doing?
Made sure everyone is properly recovering?
Organized a team bonding event?

As a coach, push your players hard, but love them even harder. The more you care about your players as people, the more they’ll respect you and embrace your coaching.
A good player-coach relationship is built on trust. As a coach, you earn your players’ trust by helping them improve and showing that you truly care about them. And as a player, you earn your coach’s trust by giving your best effort and being coachable.
Leadership is about doing whatever it takes to help your team succeed. Average leaders make excuses and let things happen. Great leaders take ownership and get things done.
@BballCoachMac True of any sport. Coaches take note. Some of the hardest workers on a team with little recognition. All coaches need to make offensive players play defense in practice to gain perspective. #defendersrule
WE need to do better for our kids. The cost of youth sports is not just financial, stats, and scholarships. ☘️@HurstAthletics WE should be focusing on the process not the goals. When did WE lose sight of developing humans by being part of a team?
