Mike Arnold Challenges Trump's Claim: Christian Genocide in Nigeria Far from Over
Former U.S. Mayor and Christian activist Mike Arnold has sharply criticized President Donald Trump's recent assertion that the United States has "largely ended" the Christian genocide in Nigeria. Arnold, a vocal advocate who has made multiple trips to Nigeria's displacement camps and front lines, warns that the situation remains dire and that the Trump administration is being misled.
In statements circulated on social media and interviews, Arnold argues that recent U.S. strikes primarily targeted ISIS-linked militants, leaving the Fulani militias whom he identifies as responsible for the majority of attacks on Christian communities untouched. "It's not true. And he's being played," Arnold stated. "The strikes hit ISIS. The Fulani militias who do most of the actual killing were never touched."
The U.S. recently withdrew most of its troops from Nigeria following a counterterrorism operation in the Lake Chad Basin area aimed at degrading Islamic State (IS) capabilities. U.S. officials described the mission as successful, with significant degradation of IS leadership. Trump linked the withdrawal to progress against violence targeting Christians.
Arnold, however, calls this premature and dangerous. He contends that the broader pattern of violence against Christians, involving mass killings, village destructions, church burnings, and displacement of millions persists. He points to ongoing neglect in IDP (internally displaced persons) camps, where victims, many of them widows and orphans from jihadist attacks, receive little government support. Without sustained pressure, he predicts escalation.
Arnold, founder of Africa Arise International, has long documented what he describes as systematic targeting of Christians in Nigeria's Middle Belt and beyond. He urges Americans to contact the White House and push for continued action, warning that declaring victory too soon could embolden perpetrators and undermine efforts to protect vulnerable communities.
