Perhaps this is the most unusual war memorial in our book 'To Our Brothers' War Memorials in British Schools. It comes from Leighton Park School who are a Quaker foundation. They were unable to use religious or militaristic imagery so they commissioned this remarkable sundial.
Congratulations to HM Queen Elizabeth on her #PlatinumJubilee. The June 1953 Leightonian contains writeups and commentary including from some who went up to London. Meanwhile back @lpschool....
The room across the archway in the annexe used to be known as the Irish Dorm, as it housed the numerous Irish Quaker students. Photo from 1920s. @OldLeightonians
A treat for us this week, dropped off by OL Rob Powell-Jones. #throwback to 1977 for the joint @quakereducation Quakers Schools Choir performing wonderful Verdi's Requiem in York Minster. Remember ours @LeightonParkMus ?
In 1910 "Twelfth Night" was the first production @LPSchool where costumes were allowed; previous productions were not permitted, as at odds with Quaker beliefs of truth
On this day 1908, top entertainment in the form of a talk about The Human Ear by OL HM Wallis. Shame there is no record of the blackboard drawings. #OTD@OldLeightonians
