The 1st International Special Olympics Summer Games were held at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on July 19 – 20, 1968. One thousand individuals with intellectual disabilities from 26 U.S. states and Canada competed in track and field and swimming. @LP_LEAD

Rosa's Law was passed in 2010. This eliminated all references to mental retardation in U.S. federal law, replacing it with the term "mental disability" and "an individual with an intellectual disability." Spread the word to end the word! #RespectWeekFunFact
