Australia and Turkey will face off tonight in Vancouver’s first FIFA World Cup match at B.C. Place.
With game-day road closures in effect around BC Place and large crowds expected downtown, we encourage fans and visitors to take transit whenever possible.
Fan marches will also be taking place downtown this evening, with the first beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the last around 6 p.m. These events are expected to draw thousands of supporters and may cause additional congestion in the downtown core.
Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Just another day policing in the DTES- officers recovered and returned a stolen cell phone and an e-bike to grateful owners. They responded to a call of a man armed with a machete and determined he had three arrest warrants and then arrested another male in possession of a push dagger who had a B.C.-wide warrant for BNE. Both were on probation and breaching multiple release conditions. Officers also made a drug trafficking arrest and seized multiple weapons. #VPD
VPD officers responded to over 650 calls yesterday. In addition to the home invasion in the 3600 block of Commercial Street, Patrol members attended two sensitive sudden deaths, three sexual assaults, a harassment incident, a lost child report, and another violent assault within a residence.
A chronic property crime offender was arrested for breaching his house arrest conditions, and a high-risk missing person was promptly located.
The dedication and hard work of these officers continues to make a meaningful difference in maintaining public safety.

The seizure of fentanyl, methamphetamine, a loaded firearm and other items reflects our ongoing commitment to addressing the harms caused by organized drug trafficking and the violence that so often accompanies it. #proudchief #wearevicpd @vicpdcanada
Good meeting today with Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree.
We spoke about the urgent public safety challenges facing Vancouver, especially in the Downtown Eastside. There is a need for all levels of government to work together on real solutions.
From repeat violent offenders and street disorder to the pressures facing frontline responders and local businesses, cities cannot tackle these issues alone.
Vancouver is stepping up with investments in policing, community safety, and coordinated enforcement, but lasting progress requires strong partnerships between municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
Appreciate the Minister’s willingness to collaborate and focus on practical action with forward thinking that makes our communities safer for everyone.
Addressing cybercrime remains a top priority for the RCMP. These investigations are complex and often spanning jurisdictions. Work is always underway to hold cyber criminals accountable, including in cases of CERB-related fraud cases.
It’s a challenging job where every ~4 days an officer is assaulted, for doing their job. TY @BradWestPoCo for your support, police everywhere appreciate it. #ProudPocoResident🙏 Have a read 🙏
