@MartinAntkowiak@SamaHoole In the Holodomor (1932–1933), Ukrainian territory where (majority of) the famine occurred was the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, not Poland-a constituent republic of the Soviet Union.
Galicia & Volhynia) were controlled by the 2nd Polish Republic during the interwar period.
@PollTracker2024 This poll has pretty obvious recency bias. Certainly, neither Obama nor Trump should be anywhere near near the top tier, which means not in the rankings. President Trump will be consequential & the most (transparently) corrupt President in history - a bill that will come due.
@BreitbartNews We're not a democracy, @PramilaJayapal , we're a Constitutional Republic.
I refuse to turn the volume on to consider your side of an argument when you can't get basic governmental facts concerning the structure of our system correct.
The school closure argument is complete BS. There are approximately 2600 degree granting (4-year type) colleges and/or universities in the USA. If you take 500,000 Chinese students and divide it by the 2600 you get 192 students per school. Who believes that an enrollment drop of 192 on average will force a college or university to declare bankruptcy and close down.
Not to mention that at least some of those 192 spots could be filled by USA citizens or at a minimum by students from other countries that present less of a danger to us in both the present and future.
The fact that President Trump has to make this ridiculous economic argument and simultaneously admit that the real reason is that we can’t afford to insult China is the best argument for decoupling our economies as quickly as possible.
America has been, and continues to be, screwed by globalist business interests.
@s_q5676k@MarioNawfal I get it...that this is your schtick. The Shia regime in Iran are messianic & Twelvers believe they need to kill every Jew & non-believer so their Mahdi will be reborn. They want to destroy your culture & kill anyone who resists. 🇨🇦 continues to be a major conduit for Islamists
The Ibérico pig spends its final months eating acorns.
Not as a boutique indulgence, but for ancient land management. The dehesa, the oak woodland savannah of southwestern Spain and Portugal, has been grazed by pigs for at least two thousand years. The pigs eat the acorns, the acorns are the seed crop of the cork and holm oaks, and the pig's rooting aerates the soil and suppresses scrub, keeping the woodland open and productive.
The fat that results from this acorn feeding is exceptionally high in oleic acid: the same monounsaturated fat that makes olive oil the darling of every cardiologist at a Mediterranean diet conference.
Jamón ibérico de bellota has a better fatty acid profile than most olive oil.
It also tastes like something carved from a particularly good dream.
The Spanish classified it as a health food. Then ate it. Then lived long lives. Nobody held a press conference.
The Supreme Court starts oral arguments this morning on Birthright Citizenship. Today’s issue with birthright citizenship is that it incentivizes foreigners to get into our country to have children born here.
@LauraInBigfork@TallBlueBlonde1@ImtiazMadmood You're right Laura. Having read a lot about of objectivism-it distills down to self interest. Our friend would vote against emancipation becaise of the cost to her individually...welfare of the group isn't on their radar screen. There's not enough of them to die on any mountain.
@TallBlueBlonde1@ImtiazMadmood The cost to emancipate the slaves in the Caribbean & other locations by itself was staggering at the time, 5% of GDP at the time & 10s of millions. It was in the form of a loan taken out & finally repaid in 2025. The cost of the West African Squadron& diversions was millions more
@TallBlueBlonde1@ImtiazMadmood Cite your references. I think you are templating your own biases on this issue. This was a mass movement in the 18th Century - it was driven by multiple factors, incl religion, but also morality. Petitions were completed & boycotts started by the hundreds of thousands.
@SanjayNarayan@politeracy@justchangingun President Trump banned Chinese students, then reversed himself because private elite Universities with endowments bigger than smaller EU countries. He also gave a pass to Qatar, funder of the Muslim Brotherhood & the largest foreign funder of US Universities.
@politeracy@justchangingun Western academia is complicit-particularly "elite" Universities in the Anglosphere. The lure of full tuition payments & full depts from Muslim money is the greatest vulnerability of Western culture. French academia fostered the Islamic Revolution, the Ivy League sustains it.
If the New York Times reported the war in 1944 as it’s reporting the war today.
President Roosevelt continues to pursue a war for which he failed to prepare the United States. Though there have been some significant military achievements, especially in North Africa, U.S. forces remained bogged down in the Pacific and severely bloodied in strategically meaningless places like Tarawa and Guadalcanal. The Italian campaign has totally stalled, with an appalling loss of American life that will soon be surpassed by the utterly reckless and inevitably doomed invasion of France. Meanwhile, the innocent people of Japan and Germany continue to suffer. The damage to both their countries and the impact on the world economy is incalculable. The chances of a negotiated settlement appear more than ever remote. And all of this because the impressionable Roosevelt was duped into going to war by that master manipulator, Churchill.

Farmer: "That's rainfall."
Activist: "What?"
Farmer: "The figure includes all the rain that falls on the pasture. The cows drink from the stream. The rain falls whether there's a cow here or not."
Activist: "It's still water consumption."
Farmer: "Should I stop the rain falling on my field?"
Activist: "Grow crops instead. More efficient."
Farmer: "This is a 35-degree slope in the Welsh hills. Show me the crop."

Activist: "There must be a solution."
Farmer: "There is. It's called a cow."

In the mid-19th century, several of the Plains Indian nations were the tallest people on Earth.
This is the recorded observation of US Army medical officers, of naturalist explorers, of census-takers and of the anthropologist Franz Boas, whose extensive surveys of Indigenous populations in the late 19th century provide the most systematic data we have.
Bison-reliant men averaged approximately six feet in height, roughly an inch taller than bison-reliant women's male counterparts in non-bison nations, and substantially taller than European populations of the same period.
The Lakota, the Cheyenne, the Comanche, the Blackfoot: these were not small people. They were physically exceptional by the standards of any population anywhere in the world at that time. Army officers who encountered them in the Plains Wars described them repeatedly, with a combination of professional admiration and considerable personal alarm, as among the most physically impressive individuals they had ever seen.
The reason is not genetic.
The reason is bison.
A Plains Indian diet built around bison was one of the most nutritionally complete diets available to any human population on Earth in the 19th century. Fresh meat. Organ meat, liver eaten raw and warm from the kill, heart, kidney, brain, all consumed immediately.
Bone marrow, cracked and extracted, calorically the densest food available in nature. Fat, bison are not lean animals; a mature bull in peak autumn condition carries enormous fat reserves, particularly in the hump and around the organs. Pemmican, made from dried meat pounded with rendered fat and dried berries, was the shelf-stable concentrated nutrition that sustained winter and travel.
Protein. Fat. Fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K in the organs. Iron in the blood. Zinc in the meat. Omega-3 fatty acids from grass-fed ruminant tissue. B12. Creatine.
Everything the human body requires to reach its genetic height potential, present and bioavailable, in a package that required no processing, no supplementation, no fortification programme.
The Boas data is unambiguous. When the bison disappeared, the heights fell. The generation born after the slaughter was significantly shorter than the generation born before it. The same genetic stock, the same landscape, a different food supply: and the bodies recorded the change within a single generation.
This is not complicated.
This is protein and fat availability, written in bones, across a century.
The US government killed the food supply.
The people who had eaten it got shorter.
And then the same government's agricultural extension services arrived on the reservations with grain rations and flour and the suggestion that the former bison hunters should become wheat farmers.
The wheat farmers.
On the plains that the bison had managed for ten thousand years.
The plains that turned to dust within fifty years of the bison leaving them.
There is no version of this story that makes the people who planned it look good.
