@PhysicsHawk Both AP calculus and environmental define words with other words you have learn first to understand. An example is in Calc the term 'differentiable' is a differentiable function of one real variable is a function whose derivative exists at each point in its domain#feynmanchat1920
@PhysicsHawk Feyman question how pi can be used in equations not related to circles in attempt to truly understand its meaning. In science I would say I question about space, trying to wrap my head around the size of the universe #feynmanchat1920
@caro_physics@PhysicsHawk Yeah, usually lines and geometry are refined to math class and not thought about in actives like knitting. Good thoughts Caroline!
@PhysicsHawk Most of think of math class as the only time we do math but with the story of the girl describing the upward slope of a line in weaving, we see math is hidden in our day to day lives. An example of math in practical life is managing money or disturbing money in a budget.
@TischerCade@PhysicsHawk Understanding trends is very important in the scientific community. A child starts developing a way of thinking analytically when they recognize patterns
@PhysicsHawk Recognizing patterns and discovering what goes next is the same skill in science of making and observation and then making a hypothesis for what could possibly be a result. Recognizing patterns develops the way your brain thinks. feynmanchat1920
@PhysicsHawk NASA had a combination of pressure from the USSR, American public, along with time pressure. They did the best they could and worked really hard launch all of the successful spaceships. Overall, safety is very important but it should not prohibit scientific discovery.
@PhysicsHawk A bad grade on a test can be a result of multiple things such as an overload of homework assignments on one day and lack of time to study. It could also result from being tired and unable to focus while taking the test from not getting enough sleep the night before.
@fields_40_@PhysicsHawk If it worked before, no one probably thought it would not work this time, even if there was a 1/100 or 1/1000 chance it would break.
@PhysicsHawk NASA had to work around the clock during the time of the Cold War with the need to be the first to the moon. Even with thousands of test they could not thoroughly test every single component of the spaceship in every atmosphere it could possibly encounter through its journey.
@GrahamR39014690@PhysicsHawk Our worldview and outlook is often highly affected by what we learn from past experiences we have had and can prevent us from considering potential new problems.
@PhysicsHawk I would say we often do. people break traffic laws such as speeding or looking at their phone while driving because the last time they broke that law they did not get caught or crash. Because it has gone okay in the past they are willing to risk it again #feynmanchat1920
@PhysicsHawk I think Feyman wanted to prove the safety of the astronauts and teacher were more important than the propaganda this launch encompassed. He provided his raw thoughts in this report, not sugar coating his findings and opinions and that probably why he had to fight to include it.
@PhysicsHawk When trying to figure something new out, don't just keep trying to figure it out the same way you have discovered old things in the past if that doesn't work. Consider new unknown possibilities and if you can't figure it out be okay with not knowing
