First time at Enniscrone GC….

1. A proper golf course. Well conditioned, well laid out through some enormous dunes.

2. Routing (into the dunes then in the low lands and back along the dunes and coast) reminded me of Barnbougle and Wallasey.

3. The stretch from 11-16 is amazing. Back into the largest dunes and to the coast. Back and forth, up and down.

4. Greens were excellent. Noticeably pure and almost glassy/shiny in places already and it’s just May.

5. When the locals tell you they moved up their competition for wind, you know you’re in for it. Hit a 2-iron from 160 on one hole and a PW from 180 on another.

6. Feels like you can choose your own adventure on nearly every hole. Either taking on carries and blind shots or laying back and taking on longer approaches.

7. These courses are so integrated with the towns they are in. Social hubs, meeting places and you see every age and gender of players out on the course. Endearing quality.

When you think about #LUFC’s recent past:

Players refusing to play, demanding to be transferred, having to train on their own, being told by their club captain: “if you don’t want to be here, f*** off”.

Contrast all of that to:

Gabriel Gudmundsson - who no one thought should’ve been sent off (including the referee) - going over to the Leeds fans and shaking their hands and personally apologising for seeing red.

Had his name sung at the weekend and again today. An outstanding player and even better guy - someone who epitomises the spirit of this group.

And the difference in culture between certain players of the recent past; and the way this team conducts themselves, has never been more stark.
