LWVDDH will have a tent on Fridays in June at the Dearborn Farmers' Market for getting petitions and also voter registration help. Times are 1:45 to 7:00. #local#advocacy
"We hold the power to create a more perfect #democracy. Women’s rights are human rights, and we will continue to fight until the right to #abortion is restored. This is the work that the League of Women Voters does...We fight for our freedom." @LWV US Board President Dr. Turner.
Poll workers are public servants -- they report to election officials, not to political parties. If you are concerned about a poll worker’s behavior, call the nonpartisan election protection hotline (866-OUR-VOTE/866-687-8683) and report the issue. #MIVoting
"Whether [voters] choose to vote from home, by mail, via secure drop box, in person by absentee ballot at their local clerk office, or at their polling location on Election Day, MI voters can be confident their vote will be counted and their voice will be heard." @JocelynBenson
A complete education requires a comprehensive approach that is inclusive of all American cultures. The teaching of history must reflect the perspectives/experiences of marginalized groups. LWV believes in creating a more just, equitable, & inclusive democracy.
While many states will continue to ensure access to abortion, many other states will not. We must make sure that elected officials in #Michgan know we will not be complicit as our rights are stripped away from us.
When women/other childbearing people can no longer control their own bodies, they're no longer equal in our democracy. SCOTUS' decision threatens the status of other constitutional rights, such as those protecting marriage equality, intimate conduct, & the right to contraception.
As election season continues to heat up, voting rights groups like ours are seeing more and more attacks that are meant to intimidate us and stop our work of defending #democracy and empowering voters. But we will stand strong and continue our work!
Tomorrow is #Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved people in the US. However, it also reminds us of the injustice/brutality in our nation’s history & the role each of us must play in building a future of progress/#equity for all.
Michiganders: do you have a new precinct or polling location? Check your mail for a new voter info card or visit https://t.co/8fo0YkymNl to find out. 🗳️💪

We grieve with the families of the 21 victims in Uvalde and every family in America who has been touched by gun violence. We also stand in solidary with our League members in Texas. #EnoughIsEnough#StopGunViolence
LWVMI supports the petition for a constitutional #amendment requiring:
1) Governor/Lt. Governor/SOS/Attorney General/Legislators to file annual financial statements
2) changes term limits from 6yrs in the House/8yrs in the #Senate to 12yrs total (served in the House/Senate/both)
LWVMI opposes HB6069 which would require women considering an #abortion to undergo a physical exam before a medical abortion could be administered. This is a change from the current law which allows for a telemedicine consultation.
