Dedicated to the late Ian Stirling, champion of #PolarBear conservation, this extensive 17-year study reveals new insights on maternal behaviour. Read it in @CanJZoology ⤵️
@grizzlygirl87 We know so little about impacts to colonies from really successful predators in he temperate zone. My guess is they know where the bat colony is and go when bats are emerging at dusk like is seen on big cave colonies say in Texas.
@grizzlygirl87 This is fascinating! I have so many Qs like can we use DNA swabbing of the wings to amplify predator DNA to confirm if Merlin’s? How many wings or again use DNA of bat wings to see how many individuals have been killed? Are the bats all from the same colony if females?
@ScrapNaturalist Highlight the ones you want - either by recency or some other criteria making them most relevant to a particular job application. Then add the sentence “plus an additional x [service/outreach/presentations/reports] not shown here”.
@BatworkerInfo That’s awesome! It’s really special when you can recognize individual bats when encountering them. Truly a perk of studying and monitoring long lived species.
@slav_metalurges@heinrichs_helen Should you want somewhere to go for some quiet nature time (and the most interesting tree forms of Arbutus trees) check out Moorecroft or Beachcomber Regional parks. More of a hike in mind? Try the Notch. All in Nanoose Bay Area.

@JasonTFisherLab With the hubris of a MSc student, I wrote in the draft of one chapter that the study design was [many descriptive sentences] and was therefore ‘robust’. 🫣My supervisor gently commented, how about we wait for outside reviews to decide if that’s a good description of the design.
