You want us to ‘make care visible’? I don’t think @HSELive would appreciate that tbh.
I’ve been a carer 8 years, and myself and Stephen have not taken a break away together. The longest I’ve ever been separated from either Harvey or Lyla has involved hospital stays.
We applied for home care support back before Lyla was born, I was due a c-section and she was supposed to go straight to hospital for heart surgery so we asked for help to care for Harvey during that period. I was told I would be ‘lucky’ to get 2 hours a week, and they also asked why the Jack and Jill foundation couldn’t just give us more hours. HSE refused the hours ultimately, meaning Harvey spent 8 hours a day crawling on the floor because I couldn’t lift him.
We pay for private health insurance for Harvey and Lyla because Harvey hasn’t seen a public speech therapist in 4 years despite being non verbal, or an occupational therapist.
We are means tested to decide if we earn little enough to get any financial support despite being the only group on social welfare that save the state money.
We do all the work of stay at home parents while also being a nurse, a physio, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, administer meds, monitor health conditions, sleep in chairs in hospital etc.
This government *does not* support us, and they never have. Show me exactly what part of the current constitution has prevented them from supporting us thus far.

NO! Wording of Article 42.B Very Carefully Chosen to Define ‘Care’ & ‘Caring’ for #Disabled & Older Citizens as Primary Responsibility of Family Members -Vast Majority Unpaid Carers are Women. The ‘Care’ Amendment is Patriarchal Opt-Out for State & @HSELive RATIFY #UNCRPD
