i just spit out my tea. Minister of Education Lisa Thompson isn't really good at taking questions. On @metromorning she just said that the gov't is increasing class sizes to give students more challenges and an opportunity to build resilience and coping skills. #edchat#onpoli
Half our high school students miss classes because of anxiety. Demand for youth mental health support is growing + services are not keeping up. Something needs to be done. Warehouse-style classrooms & “tough love” are not the answer
Youth need more support not less #OntEd
High school is about exploring what skills and likes you have before deciding what career you’d like to invest in.
Education is the key to our success as a society. Everyone deserves access to quality education.
Education should valued and be accessible for everyone. Telling students they must complete an online course assumes students all have access to computers and the internet (this is a privilege that not all students in Ontario have).
This will also drastically cut the elective courses available to high school students.
Elective courses are probably the most important classes offered to our youth, as it allows students to explore a variety of options that they may not otherwise be exposed too.
I’ve had a lot of emotions cycling through my mind since yesterday’s announcement, and have been trying to find the right words to share, beyond the staggering numbers. What this means to me as a teacher; what your kids mean to me; and what all this could mean for the both of us.
Educators sign up to become a Legacy School and “do something” for reconciliation https://t.co/TP4wtNCbio You might even have an Artist Ambassador visit your school!
Should we be labelling our books? What does this do? Coming away with so much to think about. Thank you #OLASC19 @tdsb_FHCI_LLC @HCI_Library#microaggressions
