Great day; great kids. Just a wonderful way to end the semester. Absolutely extraordinary work by these kids, the level of which far surpasses the expectations of any grade 11 Canadian law class. I am running out of superlatives to describe Bloor students year after year!
In 10 years, we'll realize young adults can't read, write, or think as well as they should. We'll wonder how we allowed students to offload huge chunks of their learning to AI. Today we're just watching it happen. This is the most obvious unforced error of our time.
On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we commemorate the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945 and honour the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the millions targeted and murdered.
This day serves as a reminder of the consequences of hate and prejudice and calls on us to confront antisemitism, hate, and discrimination
OJEN thanks the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation for funding our new project, Youth Social Justice Vibes. With their help, we'll empower 100 Black, Indigenous, racialized, & equity-deserving youth in the GTA, Peel region, & Hamilton, to share their stories. @FriendlyFuture@TELUS
2025 Blue Jays may not be immortalized with a trophy, but they will be legends forever. An incredible team that met the moment over and over again, taking a country along with them. Can only say thanks, for all of it.
@SamGR_77@anthonyfurey The political nature of this analysis is what bothers me. It’s okay to have a political opinion on this! But don’t pretend it’s a balanced legal analysis. “This judge is wrong!” is politics; “here’s where I disagree with the judge’s interpretation & why” is legal analysis 🤷♂️
@SamGR_77@anthonyfurey Also, many cases may engage these rights, but not to the degree that it violates them, or to the degree that anyone would go to court over them. There are also contours laid out about what those rights actually entail & don’t in case law. So simply touching on them isn’t enough.
@SamGR_77@anthonyfurey I run mock Charter appeals with my students. Generally, these cases are complex and allow for legitimate cases to be mounted by both teams. In this case here, I don’t think it would be a worthwhile exercise because again, the government’s arguments amount to “we want to do this.”
@SamGR_77@anthonyfurey This government is just bad at navigating the constitution. And that’s part of why they are so willing to invoke the NWC, and why they keep losing these cases.
