@TheRestHistory@holland_tom@dcsandbrook Which war would you consider the first to have a "home front" - e.g. the war was fought elsewhere but there were palpable impacts on everyday life at home? How did those citizens react to that?
With a few favorite history podcasts ending & In Our Time on summer break, I needed something for late night feedings with the baby, and somehow just discovered @TheRestHistory - it's fab. Highlights so far: Martin Luther, Tolkien/LotR, Tom Holland attempting to say "Kamehameha"
@richardivanjobs I am finally watching this film & I feel like it only makes sense as a giant piss taking of the French by Scott. Filming at Blenheim, Greenwich Naval College and HMS Victory? The silly musical cues? "You think you're so great just because you have boats" hahah ok
As a Curious George aficianado, I must point out it’s neither “The man in the straw hat” (Dan Wilson) nor “The man in the yellow suit” (@heygoldy). It’s “The man in the yellow hat.”
@CarolineSiede I assumed this was in the vein of "now I'm in my 30s and my personal life isn't going how I want, I find every birthday very depressing"
Truly the end of an era! Senior Acquisition and Cataloging Specialist Helen Stiles started working @BaseballHall in 1987 and retires today as our longest-tenured current employee (37 years!!) Her impact will last for generations and we wish her and her family all the best!
@CarolineSiede Have you read 99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret? Would recommend it for more about the events of that episode but also just a lot of funny stories about Margaret
Please, please can we stop calling manuscripts ‘dusty’ and ‘hidden’ in archives. Archivists ensure that they’re not one or the other, which is how we historians get to see them in the first place. It’s a lazy and inaccurate cliché that also manages to be insulting.
@cox_tom@SPLBuzz has four on order (and 2 "copies" of the ebook currently in use). Excited to be in line for the hard copy and to live somewhere with an excellent library system 🍀
