@KathySarton@AMorrisQueensU Evaluating when things are necessary/best practice vs the easy option. So important. What does technology offer to enhance learning? I love the ELL connection. Also, resources for homeschoolers. Flip side, it may create disconnect for home learners with out technology at home.
@Patrici18949796@KathySarton@AMorrisQueensU Technology has made Covid bearable and that is not small thing. There are very cool uses with tech. Check these resources out. Creating classroom connections across Canada and the world. https://t.co/ae523XAP7Y https://t.co/6fh9sIH6gC #techatschool
@GenevieveMalco3@AMorrisQueensU I love this comment! I still lean away from technology in the primary years (hands on, experiential!) but it is always great to rethink our approaches and practice. As with everything, balance seems to be the key. This definitely got me thinking as well! #techatschool
@BluebellsSea@AMorrisQueensU I completely agree. Unregulated access is the danger of technology! 100%. Adults are still trying to figure out how to use these tools safely and effectively. Children need guidance. #techatschool
@michelle_jung@AMorrisQueensU This sounds like a great balance. Digital literacy and citizenship is so, so important for older kids! But collaboration is still important.
@mshaaskinder@AMorrisQueensU@inaturalist@NatGeoEducation Yes. They are nice to have them for stations and investigations. I really don't think they are needed for K-2 though. Group videos are enough. There are so many other forms of text that small children can use. 3+ absolutely! Children need to learn to be SAFE on the web too!
@KarlyAl74072569@AMorrisQueensU I agree Karly. Even for older kids. It removes the temptation to use the technology as 'quiet' time. I understand that there are math games that the kids love but I'm not convinced they are a good use of time. I like cards and dice. Collaboration.
@MsParbeeBrar@AMorrisQueensU I agree that it's important to have library time. Properly with books, reading, lessons, and research. I also appreciate the added expertise though. I hope they include tech training in librarianship courses!
@AMorrisQueensU I have seen librarian's shift into the Tech/ADST realm so far it has not taken away from library time. It has been added to compliment the children's experiences. I have seen one librarian who was definitely not comfortable in the role and one who absolutely adores it. Tricky.
@AMorrisQueensU I also don't think tech is needed in K-2 classrooms. Use unplugged activities for coding instead. Gr 3+ safety becomes an issue for many. If we could ensure most were not using devices unsupervised (like Waldorf model) than I would say wait! Gr 7+. #techatschool
@AMorrisQueensU My thoughts on #techatschool Public school can not regulate whether students use tech at home or not. Most are! We need to educate them to be safe, recognize possible danger, and show them the best parts like coding and design. Those without also gain access.
