Children love books about boarding schools because they love the idea of living with their friends in a single building where magical things happen. A school is just a plot device to create what many humans (young and old) crave: a walkable, close-knit community.
@Prolife_Sam@wierdone2345 At over 50, she wasn’t able to run a household and faff with all of the qualifications and vetting needed. That is a privilege for the young, unmarried and childless
@Prolife_Sam@wierdone2345 She fought for years to get her job back. There was no ‘adjusting’. She was too long away, too old to retrain. My advice: never let your career go. Otherwise you play a dangerous game that you can oh so easily lose.
@Prolife_Sam@wierdone2345 My mum took 6 years off secondary school teaching with my youngest sister. By the time she went back, she was too far behind; vetting had changed, qualifications needed had changed. It has been 12 years and she only substitutes and does her grinds at home
@frodomunster@seanohargain Still horrified here in Offaly from the Irish teen who killed his step mum a few months ago 😬😬😬 and streamed the aftermath!!! I’ve had more issues from Irish men than foreign ones, I can tell you. As it is, I haven’t dated an Irish guy in 10 years
@libertystrikes2@seanohargain Please, divulge? What countries? What job do you have that you need to constantly be vetted? I know plenty of lads who are swanning (and rightly so) to other countries for a better life. I’ve no doubt that some of them are very dark, violent people
@TheIrishman1916@rtenews People driving too slow AND driving too fast are a danger. Why don’t we have a minimum speed as well as maximum? It’s crazy to constantly have to overtake someone doing 70 on a 100 (I don’t because in my Fiat 500 an accident is certain death)
@sure_look069@amyohconnor Definitely moving to Germany later this month for a job. It was that or commute 5 hours a day because I would have to live with my parents
@trackspice A stupid % of men said ‘yes’ in a study went asked “could you land a plane safely if you had no experience and only ground control?”. FAR less women voted the same. Dear man: the answer is that you’d have only the slimmest chance. Please sit down.
So, in 1989, 33 lads, sorry ‘single unvetted males of military age’, from Ballinrobe left the town to search for a better future elsewhere.
And it wasn’t just in 1989. It was most years.
But Ballinrobe won’t be returning the favour.
