Some professional news: very excited to be joining @Microsoft team in Seattle in a month from now. I will spend at least the next academic year there (on leave from @VanderbiltEcon)
I am really looking forward to put all the causal inference tools into practice.
We are excited to announce that we have two new co-editors: Tatyana Deryugina at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Jacob LaRiviere at Microsoft.
Welcome @TDeryugina and Jacob!
Calling CausalML folks: MSR AI is looking for researchers/post-docs at the intersection of causality and machine learning (incl., causal for better ML; ML for better causal methods; and applications of causalml) https://t.co/tBqI70K908 @MSFTResearch
McCarthy’s first rule on writing minimalism is a good reason to share one of my favourite data visualizations. Punctuation marks in "Blood Meridian" versus "Absalom, Absalom!". Figure by @neuroecology.

@MattTaddy hey should I be using your book for the UW data science and strategic pricing course this Spring (top notch undergrads and masters students from CS)? If so how do I get a instructor's copy?
@susanslusser@tjohnson1960 Is 30 ABs a big enough sample for Barreto? Why not put him in there everyday to see where he's at? What is the thinking given that it seems to contradict what BoMel was saying when he came up?
@mwanamak Plain text then parse works. Mechanical turk is also a resource. Might be able to do a Google scholar search and automate. Better yet: email the AEA and ask then to put thing in a JSON format via API call to make it easy for you and others.
My guiding #dataviz principles:
1. Be clear on intent
2. The right graph creates an "aha" moment
3. Don't overcomplicate
4. Get rid of the non-essential
5. Make it clear where to look
6. Words make a graph accessible
7. Audience trumps all else
