Tomorrow, we’re putting the world’s first planetary defense test mission, #DARTMIssion, to the test by crashing it into a non-hazardous asteroid. Tune in to the live broadcast starting at 6 pm ET: https://t.co/oqJur69FsS
While Uhuru played a groundbreaking role in x-ray astronomy, electrical engineer Marjorie Townsend, seen here on the left next to the Uhuru spacecraft at @NASAGoddard in 1970, also broke new ground: she was NASA's first female project manager for a spacecraft. #WomenInSTEM 🛰️ 💯
In 1973, Townsend was 1 of 6 women to win the Federal Woman’s Award, a nationwide award to give public recognition to women in federal careers, attract attention to their work, & help recruit women to the govt sector. 💪

#OTD in 1973, the Skylab 3 crew left a joke to be discovered by the Skylab 4 crew—test dummies wearing the incoming crew's name tags! Dummy astronauts Carr and Pogue were "conducting research," while dummy Gibson stayed in the waste compartment. 😆 #NationalTellAJokeDay
