We research on the intra-cellular communication between #EndoplasmicReticulum and #NuclearEnvelope.
Farewell to Pallavi, who has been an incredible member of our lab and has made a significant contribution.
While we’re sad to see her go, we’re excited for her next adventure in @JonasRies ' Lab and know she’ll continue to do amazing science.
Best of luck, Pallavi!
We had an amazing outing to Made-by-you for a ceramic painting session before the holidays! Colorful creations and great memories were made!
With this we wish everyone happy holidays from Otsuka lab! 🎄❄️

Special shoutout to our new postdoc @ElMossadeq, who’s presenting her PhD work from Julien Dumont’s lab.
Looking forward to engaging discussions and new collaborations!
We’re excited to attend the EMBOer Workshop @EMBOevents in Italy!
@BragulatHelena will give a talk on her structural analysis of ER-NE junctions, while Julia Scholz and Kaike Ren present posters on their ongoing PhD work.

We are happy to welcome 2 new members to our lab! Layla joining us from @InstitutJacquesMonod as PostDoc and Clara is starting her PhD.
A warm welcome to our team and the Perutz! Looking forward to working together and many new discoveries ahead!
#OtsukaLab#maxperutzlabs
Huge congratulations to Clara on her excellent Master’s thesis defense! We’re so proud of your hard work and dedication, and now excited to welcome you as a new PhD student! Here’s to more success and breakthroughs ahead!

Of note, all of our EM tomograms are available at public databases @EMDB_EMPIAR (under accession codes EMD-50068, 50110, 50115, 50134 for EMDB; and 12025, 12048, 12050, 12051 for EMPIAR).
We hope our datasets will be reused for your research! (3/3)
Our first original work is finally out @emboreports ! This project was led by our first PhD student Helena @BragulatHelena , with a great help from Keisuke @IshiharaKsk in 3D morphology analysis and great collegues @viennabiocenter (1/3)
New publication❕@ShotaroOtsuka and first author Helena Bragulat-Teixidor published a new study in @emboreports 👏 They were able to reveal the distinctive morphology of junctions between the ER and the nucleus - implying a putative gatekeeper function ➡️ https://t.co/Kc7l1NUDPy
In addition to this paper (doi: 10.1038/s44319-024-00175-w), if you are interested in our CLEM method, please check this book chapter (doi: 10.1016/bs.mcb.2024.02.025). There, we described step-by-step protocols and tips for successful #CLEM (2/3)
Exciting News! A new joint lab meeting started, with Dammermann, Dolan, Ellis, Otsuka, and Pinheiro labs! Fueling up on pizza and groundbreaking discussions! 🍕🔬 #MaxPerutzLabs#viennabiocenter
Wrapped up our first lab retreat at Gustav's Castle! Big thanks to our kind host for providing the perfect place for cultivating research vision and team spirit. We are already looking forward to next year to combine science, nature and cooking together!

Happy #InternationalWomensDay!
In our research lab, the many women, bring diverse perspectives and incredible talent to the team. Let's honor the achievements of women everywhere and continue to support them in STEM and beyond!

Laser tag epicness with the Karagöz and Otsuka labs!
Scientific precision, laughs, and a post-game dinner – great way to strengthen our ties for collaboration!

Published first review article! We talk about how nuclear envelope establishes and maintains its functional identity while staying continuous with endomembrane system of the endoplasmic reticulum https://t.co/pe8ApoWKdA Check it out!
Our first preprint @OtsukaLab! Doing #CLEM, we discovered that the membrane junctions connecting the #EndoplasmicReticulum to the #NuclearEnvelope are constricted, different from junctions within the ER, and remodelled along the cell cycle. Check it out! https://t.co/5fLb3uCsxl
The Otsuka lab is very excited to contribute to the “Long Night of Science” @LNF_Austria which is taking place this Friday, 20.05.22. We are looking forward to meeting curious people interested in extracting DNA hands-on and/or discussing science!
