@SuhasDasari We generally recommend keeping rd auto and verifying the generated RDs during pre-change checks, ensuring each leaf has a unique BGP router ID.
Different RDs across MLAG peers are expected, even with a shared VTEP IP. The key is to catch unintended or duplicate RD values.
#EVPN sessions are up. But did rd auto generate the RD you expected?
On Arista MLAG peers, the VTEP IP is shared, but the auto-generated RD depends on the BGP router ID.
Check the actual RD on both leaves:
show bgp evpn instance

LACP on the access side. BGP ECMP on the uplinks.
Same topology, two different forwarding decisions.
maximum-paths 2 ecmp 2 doesn't mean both next hops are installed.
Check the #BGP paths, then the routing table. Configuration alone isn't verification. #Networking
Question for Network Engineer
Two ECMP next hops are installed in the FIB.
You run iperf3 -P 16 between the same two hosts, but almost all traffic uses one uplink.
Both links are healthy.
What would you check first?
#Networking#Networkengineer
show ip route shows two equal-cost next hops, but one uplink is doing most of the work.
#ECMP uses flow-based hashing, so a few heavy flows can skew utilization. Equal paths don’t always mean equal traffic.

#MLAG + #EVPN-#VXLAN on Arista EOS.
2 spines, 4 leaves, two MLAG pairs.
eBGP underlay, EVPN overlay, Type-2 and Type-5 routes.
The topology is ready. You handle the configuration directly in the CLI, without building the lab environment first. #Networking#Networkengineering
Ever wanted to test EVPN ESI multihoming without spending hours setting up the lab?
2 spines, 4 leaves, dual-homed hosts.
Configure LACP, work through Ethernet segments, and see what’s happening in the Arista EOS CLI.
We’ve already built the topology. #Networking#EVPN#Arista
Two eBGP peers advertise 0.0.0.0/0. Both paths are valid, but EOS selects only one.
maximum-paths 2 is already configured.
What are we missing? #Networking#Networkengineer
Two spines, two ASNs, both advertising a default route to the leaf.
Would you expect both paths to be installed for ECMP?
What would you check first?

BGP route missing?
Don’t just check the command.
Check the neighbor state, received routes, policy behavior, and why the prefix is not in the BGP table.
