Assistant Professor @wmchemistry studying quorum sensing in P. aeruginosa. Former Bassler Lab postdoc, @GestwickiLab grad student. #BardTeamChem for life.
Now that I’m ready for an announcement selfie, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be joining the @williamandmary Chem department in the fall! Excited to join the tribe and get the Taylor Lab up and running!! #newPI 🧪🧫🦠
New paper from our lab! We screened a library of FDA-approved molecules for PqsE-binders and identified a competitive inhibitor that is P. aeruginosa-permeable, as well as a potential allosteric inhibitor. https://t.co/CH5q8xyZtX
New preprint from our lab! Here we identified FDA-approved molecules that inhibit the enzyme activity of our favorite quorum sensing protein, PqsE. Work was led by 3 undergraduate and 1 MS student and in part comes from a collaboration with our Sep Lab neighbors! 🦠🧪

Anyone have grant rejection stories to share that'll make me feel better? I got this one on my third and final attempt for a particular grant. And it came in at 10 pm. On New Year's Eve. 🙃

Very excited to share our lab's first preprint! This work was lead by 2 undergrad and one masters student: Bilalay Tchadi, Jesse Derringer, and Anna Detweiler. Here we describe PqsE's ability to fine-tune RhlR's activity in a promoter specific manner:

Justin Silpe awarded the 2024 Tiger Entrepreneur Award for entrepreneurial achievement. While a postdoc in the Bassler lab, Silpe co-founded the company PumpKin https://t.co/to9htSdpxJ to extend the shelf life of human breast milk. https://t.co/m6QJM5hOmC
These laureates are VERY deserving. But an important addendum—no model could be trained without 40 years of Helen Berman and others’ work at the PDB, and we would not be certain of AF’s success without 30 years of John Moult and others’ work on CASP. Hats off to them as well 🥂

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Chemistry with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.”
This #MicroscopyMonday shows millions of Vibrio cholerae bacteria. These #bacteria have a mutation that makes them constantly produce biofilm-a sticky substance made of sugars & proteins which helps bacteria stick to surfaces.

The 2024 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.
I'm pretty late on this one I know, but William & Mary Chemistry is hiring an Assistant Professor in Biochemistry!! Come be my colleague and work with the best students ever!! Application closes in a few days... https://t.co/ZkNSLhae9R
Tomorrow is #InternationalMicroorganismDay. Aimed at raising awareness about the importance of microorganisms, this year, to celebrate these tiny organisms, a group of Society Champions have shared quotes and images, illustrated by Champion @eliza_coli.

I had a fantastic time at #Pseudmonas2024!! Great science, great surroundings in beautiful Copenhagen, and great conversations about the bug we all love (bugs if you count all the Pseudomonads). Thank you @MicrobioSoc!! 🧫🧬🧪
@DinaKingtut@AmericanAir Oh boy.. now I get why I don't see more of these complaints all the time. There are a ton of scam accounts that auto-reply to these posts😂
So apparently @AmericanAir will just cancel your reservation without telling you. My flight from Copenhagen yesterday was first to Philly, then a connection to Richmond. At some point the Richmond flight was cancelled, so AA cancelled the whole reservation. 🙃
@DinaKingtut@AmericanAir All worked out - but I am filing a complaint. The initial thing they said at the help desk was that I had to call the travel agency and book/pay for a new flight. I just don't understand how an airline can cancel a reservation and not tell me or take responsibility for it.
Welcome to the #Pseudomonas2024! We're looking forward to seeing you in Copenhagen. Over the next five days, the conference will cover the various Pseudomonas species and their role in fundamental and applied research. View the full programme online: https://t.co/WylOtsPbBK
