We show how cilia beating of ependymal cells lining the walls of brain ventricles regulate neural stem cells activation/quiescence.
This work was made possible by an amazing work of trainees in the lab and wonderful collaborators 1/7

New paper from the lab. Using longitudinal ca imaging, activity-dependent tagging and optogenetics, we show that newly allocated fear engram neurons in amygdala undergo a brief period of coordinated “offline reverberation” immediately after learning.

Many questions remain unanswered for EC-NSCs mechanical interactome and whether similar mechanisms are at play in other somatic stem cells that are also surrounded by ciliated epithelial cells.
Huge thanks to the reviewers for their very insightful comments and @NeuroCellPress
This work reveals an intricate interplay between ECs and NSCs through mechanical forces and highlights some of factors/mechanisms that may lead to generation of these mechanical forces. 6/7
Come to our 7th Satellite meeting (Stem Cells, Brain Development and Regeneration) in Toronto, May 21st 2025! Great line up of speakers including trainee talks. Great place to network and showcase your work! Spots still available.
Thrilled to share our work on how neural stem cells (NSCs) interact with distinct cell types in their niche. We use Ca2+ imaging in NSC processes and post-hoc iterative immunolabeling for multiple cell types to link NSCs functional activity to niche cell types inducing it. 1/8
Don’t miss our satellite meeting on Stem Cells, Brain Development and Regeneration at @CAN_ACN .
Stellar line-up of speakers, several slots for trainees talks!
