This tweet accidentally explains one of the deepest problems with Nigerian education.

We have confused early literacy with early intelligence.

A 5 year old kid reading and writing before everyone isn’t impressive. Childhood development is not a race to finish the ABC. Those early years should be about building curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, communication and independent thinking.

Let them build things. Draw nonsense. Play games. Solve puzzles. Ask annoying questions. Learn to disagree and explain why.

Then reading, writing and maths become tools for a mind that has already started learning how to THINK.

And Twitter is probably the funniest evidence of what happens when we get this backwards 😂

Every day you meet people here who can read and write beautifully. Big grammar sef.

But comprehension? Omo.

You write A. They read B. They argue passionately against C. Then 4,000 people retweet aggressively 😭

That is the tragedy.

Literacy is not the same thing as education. Being able to read is useless if you were never taught how to think.

Took inflation down by from 72.8% to 8.5 in two years

Was paying off almost my debt

Was setting up the strongest military power in Africa which old have made it hard for the exploiters to enter today

Was moving money outside SWIFT rails which would have enabled us build our systems eventually

Was rejecting every loan offer

Was rejecting that demonic strategy called Structural Adjustment Program

Was making sure the giant of Africa remained giant.

And what did you to it,

You reduced development metrics to food scarcity

You refused to accept that those who are talking bad about this country needed to go

You refused to follow, coz fuel scarcity is something so devastating, that could not be survived by you

You joined international powers to call it dictatorship even though the international power needed dictatorship out because it didn’t give them access

Your silence gave them concerned and they killed the dictator

Democracy banned you from social media

Democracy destroyed all systems such that your democratically chosen nafdac official laughs at the news of removal

Democracy made both citizens and leaders criminals just with different task

Democracy partners with evil corporations to kill your plants so you depend on GMO

Democracy accepted drugs from everyone because it’s cheap and kids in Kano died in numbers

Democracy made your women reduce themselves to marriage counselors and not leaders in energy

Democracy turned your men to charlatans and criminals

Democracy worked with America in terrorism finance and arms deal

Democracy kidnaps your kids as political pawns

Democracy takes blood from you everyday

If dictatorship were here, you wouldn’t even last a day here, you would be farming and serving your country

I apologize to dictatorship for how much we never appreciated it.
