Farewell column from @JohnHealey_MP to the housing sector:
"The sector is at its best when it speaks out loudly on behalf of that mission; it’s at its worst when it meekly accepts what governments of either political party say or simply talks to itself."

Also huge thanks to housing professionals across the country. I've spent much of the last 11 years - in Government and Opposition - learning from you and being inspired by you. I look forward to working with you again in the future #ukhousing 2/2
Just spoke to @ThangamMP who will be a great lead for Labour on housing. Huge thanks to my top-class, talented Labour housing team in the Commons during this last period @LabourSJ
@ACunninghamMP @jamesmurray_ldn 1/2
Huge congratulations to @Keir_Starmer and @AngelaRayner Big wins for both and together they’re a strong team to tackle the huge challenge we face to win Government again
My call today for the Government to step up help for struggling home-owners.
Short-sighted cuts to Support for Mortgage Interest payments mean this safety net that was so crucial in preventing repossessions a decade ago is all but gone.

To help control the spread of the virus, everyone needs a settled, suitable home. But too many people simply don't have this.
I've set out how Ministers could overhaul existing powers to help fix this crisis, by bringing thousands of empty homes back into use.
I told Ministers to test non-ACM cladding in 2017. They still haven't done so.
People in these blocks don't know if their homes are safe and are denied funding.
Government failure on cladding post-Grenfell has been epic and 1000s have this huge worry on top of everything else.
Right move to get people rapidly off streets, but councils need support to do this. £3m pledged from Govt - just £10k per council area - not enough when homelessness services cut by £1bn and 9,000 beds since 2010.
A welcome step in the right direction, and recognition that the flawed evictions legislation wasn't up to the job.
But to keep people in their homes in the period ahead, more is needed: to suspend rents beyond the crisis and to shore up the threadbare social security safety net.
After a decade of cuts, our housing safety net is already letting renters slip through the gaps. It is not fit for purpose for the period we now face.
So today I've set out the further steps the Government must take to keep people in their homes.

This is scandalous. The govt has broken its promise to renters.
Last week, they promised a "complete ban" on all evictions.
Today, families are turfed onto the street.
We need a real ban on all evictions & rent suspension for those struggling to pay.

Yesterday: Government promises no evictions as a result of coronavirus.
Today: I get emails making clear evictions are already happening, including a property management company that tells me evictions are at record levels, including of essential workers and vulnerable tenants.
This is plain wrong. As things stand, people will lose their homes as a result of coronavirus, despite this legislation.
Just ask Shelter, tenants' groups or housing lawyers working in this area.
Rather than trying to spin a bad bit of legislation, why not fix it?
