@panicartstudios@metaroot_ch 6: Mind you, there are A LOT of scam/crappy publishers around! So always be very careful on what you sign.
But I can guarantee you that Metaroot really puts their heart and soul into this and don't try to screw you over or steal your IP, like others do.
@panicartstudios@metaroot_ch 1: Well, I'm neither a publisher nor have I actually worked with one, but I did attend a short talk/presentation last week where Metaroot presented themselves and talked about how they work. So here's how I understand it.
@panicartstudios@metaroot_ch 5: 'Cause as a wise person once said to me: If the publisher helps you sell 10'000 copies of your game and takes a percentage of that, it is still a lot more than when you do it yourself and only manage to sell 1000 copies but can keep it all for yourself.
@panicartstudios@metaroot_ch 4: plus have a lot of time at hand, than congratulations, you definitely don't need a publisher! If you don't, well, it might actually be worth it.
@panicartstudios@metaroot_ch 3: If you're great at marketing yourself, know how to make convincing trailers and images, how to tease your game to invoke curiousity in players, have contacts to streamers and already a huge fanbase and also know how to leverage steam algorithms, etc etc
@panicartstudios@metaroot_ch 2: They basically do the marketing for you, make sure your game is presented in a professional way (and doesn't look like crap) and will get as much outreach as possible.
