Scientists shouldn't be in charge of science, regardless of the domain. Science provides no moral framework. They ask,"Can we do this?" And fail to ask,"should we do this?"

I'm not arguing for a theocracy either, tho. The only answer has always been good men in positions of power. Tough pill for libertarians to swallow.

B) when playing the grand game, alliances shift as the phases change. The taliban can either be a stabilizing force in the region or a casus belli for chaos, depending who is in charge.

There was no valid point, which is the point. The Jedi used her slavery as a means to force Anakin to let go of his attachments. The jedi likely held enough political and "moral" authority to simply ask no action be taken on Shmi's behalf. The worst kind of "Let it go" philosophy.
