WE ARE HIRING 🎉🎉
The UG team are hiring our next cohort of 2024/2025 Teaching Fellows.
Over the next few days watch out of our Twitter feed to see what a TF life is like @NewcastleHosps
See Trac for details!

I do not take industrial action lightly. It is disruptive to everyone involved but I see no other option. Workers are leaving the NHS in droves to find better pay & conditions elsewhere. I strike today to demand a better future for the NHS & the public it serves. #PayRestoration
I would rather receive an anaesthetic from an academically excellent anaesthetist, than from someone who thinks sexual harassment is par for the course of medical training.
I’m proud to be a Snowflake Anaesthetist. When snowflakes combine, we are a blizzard. ❄️❄️
(2/2) We are astonished that @thetimes have chosen to publish this letter. Once again, one man has been given a platform to speak about something he will never be unanswerable for, yet millions of women live with the consequences of everyday.

This is not just about sexual assault and harassment
It’s about the culture of impunity and bullying that allows these attitudes and behaviours to flourish
It ALL needs to change
For all diverse surgeons

A significant part of the NHS problems?
Isn’t finance
It’s the inability of many in national roles of influence having an inability to push back against stupid initiatives
And an inability (deliberate or otherwise) to understand that silence is complicity
#ThursdayThought
Pride and dismay.
Pride that consultants have come together, like the junior doctors did, to defend and rebuild our terms and conditions.
Dismay that the government has forced us to the point of striking by their refusal to negotiate or even to recognise the problem properly.
1. Tomorrow i will be supporting the NHS #ConsultantsStrike
About Me:
➡️ I am a cardiology consultant / professor @UHNM_NHS
➡️ i was from a working class background, i went to a state comprehensive. My dad left school at 16, mum at 12. I am the first / only member of my family to receive a higher education. I received a student grant to go to @UniofOxford. I left med school with little debt.
I could not afford to train as a doctor now.
I worked through my cancer treatment as I wanted to minimise the impact of my treatment on that of my patients. I am committed to them, my job and the nhs.
I will be striking with my consultant colleagues for all the same reasons.
