Activists have been stopped and taken away on Thursday by Hong Kong police in Causeway Bay, defying a heavy police deployment at and around the former site of Hong Kong’s commemorative Tiananmen crackdown vigils.
A young man in a black T-shirt was intercepted by police after he put on a blindfold and began using a red pen to write on his arm outside the Sogo department store at around 7.15pm.
Despite being surrounded by police, he continued the act until he was ordered to stop. Moments later, he was taken into a police vehicle. Before he got into the van, he pulled out a small red book that appeared to be China’s constitution.
At around 7pm, a man was surrounded by police officers on Paterson Street after being spotted holding a candle at around 7pm.

On the 8-month jail time the Hong Kong gov't imposed on my father:
1. To sentence my 69-year-old father under the pretext that his actions lowered the “likelihood” of my return to stand trial is not justice; it is a judicial farce. I will return only to a liberated Hong Kong.
Weaponizing my love for my family will not limit my love for Hong Kong. The Hong Kong government’s retaliation does not and will not discourage me from my ongoing advocacy and activism.
Today, my father was convicted simply for being my father.
This is how the Hong Kong government retaliates against me and my pro-democracy advocacy. This is hostage taking. This is transnational repression.
BREAKING: Jimmy Lai, the pro-democracy former Hong Kong media tycoon and a fierce critic of Beijing, is sentenced to 20 years in prison in one of the most prominent cases prosecuted under a China-imposed national security law. https://t.co/YE6s2IJw1X
Hong Kong's legislative council election saw a near-record-low turnout, despite extended voting hours and new polling stations, after the city's recent fire sparked anger among voters https://t.co/pwKlaaQKg9
Turnout for Hong Kong’s “patriots only” Legislative Council elections was at a near-record low, with fewer than 32% of voters casting ballots, as the number of registered voters fell for the 4th consecutive year—only 1.3M voters compared to 1.4M in 2021. https://t.co/MfHfhTRSke
Despite government warnings, a record-high number of invalid votes were cast in Hong Kong’s "patriots-only" election, exposing growing public discontent.

The British government plans to decide next month whether it will let China open a mega-embassy in London. The evidence keeps building that this is a bad idea, and the latest warning comes from Carmen Lau, a Hong Kong dissident-in-exile living in the U.K.

In six hours, my 68-y.o. father will, once again, appear at a #HongKong court for trial. The reason? My advocacy and organizational work for Hong Kong's democracy.
This is the first time the Hong Kong regime has weaponized blood ties for its transnational repression campaign. 🧵
I've been targeted by a malicious campaign—deepfake pornography mailed to my neighbours.
Escalating TNR—using AI as a weapon of sexual violence to destroy the dignity of women activists.
We must confront this hybrid threat.

Several former colleagues of Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai at the Apple Daily newspaper reacted with dismay at his national security conviction, fearing Lai and other former staffers may be given a heavy sentence but saying he remains an inspiration https://t.co/5YRYH4Wzpl
Latest project with @JessiePang0125, @Han_Miami and @jamespomfret about the national security trial of Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai. Illustrations are done in the High Court, a pity isn't allowed to draw there now, I had to attend and make sketches after observation.
//Foreign media including Agence France-Presse, the Financial Times, The New York Times, the Associated Press, Bloomberg, and The Wall Street Journal were told there would be no tolerance for “trouble making,” according to those news organizations and media reports.//

Hong Kong fire: Echoes of loss below burnt towers

Hongkongers have paid tribute to 37-year-old firefighter Ho Wai-ho, who lost his life last Wednesday battling the fatal inferno at Wang Fuk Court, which has claimed 156 lives so far.
At Sha Tin Fire Station, where Ho served, a booth has been set up for residents to pay their respects. Bouquets of flowers filled the tables, as many observed a moment of silence in front of the station.
The Fire Services Department (FSD) on Monday warned of fraudulent fundraising messages in the name of Ho’s family. The scam appeared after unions appealed to the public to raise money for Ho’s father, according to the FSD.
