I read this book called Reality Hunger by David Shields; the book has a weird collage format but the basic thesis is that we are so starved for “the real” in modern life that we invent and insert it inappropriately into our products and spectacles
The “punching down” comedy of the 1990s hasn’t aged well. I’m watching Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me and I don’t find anything funny about a man losing his mojo.
