@UKRunChat@runningpunks a slow, easy tempo run today with a classic old school punk playlist (Clash, Sex Pistols, Bad Religion). Trying to get into slower runs with reduced heart rate, which is tough as I just want to do a Forrest Gump.
Angelina Jolie’s lawyer is right. It’s harassment. This entire lawsuit is just post separation abuse. She left him ten years ago because he assaulted her and her children and he will not let her go because he’s an abuser.
I spent years investigating and prosecuting sexual assault cases. That experience makes this decision almost unfathomable to me.
According to the transcript, this young woman swatted away one man’s hand because she was uncomfortable. She told another “no” multiple times or that she was too tired. She described what happened as coercion and said she was “completely and totally incapacitated.”
Then there are the group-chat messages. At 1:42 a.m., a message suggested a woman was available for sex. Later, someone asked:
“Shop still open?”
The response: “Yea.”
And yet the District Attorney concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to even seek an indictment, let alone attempt to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
That is simply staggering.
I understand the evidentiary challenges of prosecuting sexual assault. I lived them. But if these facts aren’t even enough to put the case before a grand jury, we have to ask survivors what exactly we expect them to do to be believed and protected by our criminal justice system.
This is also why civil sexual assault cases matter so deeply. When the criminal system fails to provide accountability, the civil justice system can give survivors another path to seek it, not only from those who harmed them, but from the institutions whose actions or failures may have enabled that harm. https://t.co/YaZi1d9nog
Men honestly all over X excuse gang rape.
Why would Cornell put out a crime alert about a rape and forced drug use if none occurred and the victim said it was consensual.
Thats right. She never said that. Maybe get the facts straight. It was campus police or the DA throwing out lies.
Men today honestly will believe anything to excuse rape. https://t.co/Ba3ZrfV9Pm
"She never said"
SHE WAS NEVER INTERVIEWED.
Fuck you Cornell and ABC.
She never had a chance to say.
And now she has a chance, and is very clear about every one of these points.
What “she didn’t seem bothered by the assault” means to him vs. her
His version:
• She kept talking to me.
• She didn’t tell anyone right away.
• She seemed normal afterward.
Her version:
For all you defenders of rapists, let's try this once more:
"No. It is not unique or even especially unusual for someone reporting sexual assault to give a more limited, confused, incomplete, or somewhat different account shortly after the event and a fuller account later. Trauma, intoxication, shame, fear of consequences, uncertainty about consent, and fragmented memory can all affect an early report. The National Institute of Justice specifically notes that traumatic memories may emerge slowly and in fragments rather than as a clean chronological narrative."
I did. Every single word. It was absolutely horrific. She was incapacitated, then horrendously raped, whilst they put ketamine on their genitals and continued to keep her incapacitated. She went to that frat house to see her friend, and ended up in hell. They then all went and bragged about it around campus. Page 178 made my skin crawl.
If you are implying that she was confused after the event, appeared to go along with it etc then I would suggest you look at trauma responses and Gavin DeBeck’s The Gift of Fear.
@MEliza4181@JeninYounesEsq Why should be be shameful about what happened to her? So she shouldn’t report being raped, because her parents might see it? I suspect that she cares, that she cares a lot - and no one can ever understand how she feels.
@lickmyfrost@landpalestine Happens in the UK too, the drinking culture and misogynistic views are rife. I saw it a lot! When people spoke up they were called ‘up tight’ and everything was brushed under the rug.
@landpalestine Signed! Abhorrent behaviour like this should have consequences. For too long higher education institutions across the USA and the UK have allowed this behaviour. That stops now.
@PloddyPaolo I think if people already know what they are doing then it isn’t going to change your life! It’s a good training plan, but you can also get that elsewhere!
