@BSLterplife There's also a shortage of qualified interpreters (cert or not). The situation borders on dire in many rural areas. My job focuses on the situation in MN, which fares better than many places, but there are still issues. (And Video Relay Interpreting is a HUGE can of worms.)

@BSLterplife In the USA, we have https://t.co/BCcLMqFFBF, who provide certification of ASL interpreters. There's a process for certification, as well as continuing education requirements to maintain that certification. But many states don't require certification to interpret. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Good morning. The short report: New job continues to go well, but is very busy. Therapy is grueling. Roommate is awesome. Spring is coming to my city. Europe is at war. Again.

Hey, I have a lovely birthday present arriving next week: A new job. (Birthday in 3 days, new job in 5.) I'll be working at a local interpreting agency, mostly doing grant management. A fully-accessible-by-definition job is going to be a radical experience for me.

@AutisticCallum_ @MrKitMath It's also a Deaf culture thing. We use names (or name signs) sparingly. Granted, ASL proforms work very differently than in most other languages, so it's easier to track who is being referred to without using names.

@TheRaDR "Queer" and "f****t" got me assaulted in high school. I'm not actually gay (I'm trans, lol), but queer is a versatile monosyllable that covers multitudes. I spent years reclaiming "queer", and no knee-high youngling is going to make me stop using it.
