Democrats said Sen Mitchell was no longer a part of their caucus yesterday. Today, when they realized the senate makeup would be 33-33-1 and that would impact committee proportions, they back-tracked. They are lying to the people. #mnleg
Two attempts to bar Sen. Mitchell from voting failed. Ironically, the first bill to get a vote is from a GOP author regarding renaming a bridge for a former mayor of Granite Falls. It’s passing unanimously. Interesting to see what happens with more contested bills.
Senate President Bobby Joe Champion has ruled in favor of a motion to rule Sen. Nelson’s motion out of order to bar Mitchell from voting. Mitchell was the deciding vote in upholding the decision to rule the motion out of order.
GOP Sen. Zach Duckworth of Lakeville says the 34-33 DFL majority should not be factor in whether she is barred from voting. Mitchell is sitting directly behind Duckworth as he makes his argument.
GOP Sen. Steve Drazkowski of Mazeppa says Mitchell is guilty of “betrayal of public trust” and has brought “dishonor” and “disrepute” to the Senate and cited news stories from around the country and world about Mitchell’s arrest.
A mockery is being made of the State Senate, Minnesota State government, the people we serve, and the oath every sitting member has taken to uphold the state Constitution and our laws. This is not a time for smiles and hugs - it’s a time for accountability. End the absurdity.
Sen. Judy Seeberger in October: "I take issue with the implication that I somehow support a gas tax. Nothing could be further from the truth."
On Sunday, Seeberger voted to increase Minnesota's gas tax.
Grant Hauschild (D-Hermantown) literally voted against sending the bill back so they could better support nursing homes. Now he’s trying to take credit for the idea. Thankfully, Republicans stayed at the table & were able to secure $300M to care for our aging population.
HAPPENING NOW: Senate and House DFL leaders say the final transportation finance bill will likely include BOTH an increase in gas tax indexed to inflation AND a delivery fee they now call a “road maintenance fee.” These taxes and fees will hit every Minnesotan.
Today, Representatives Jim Hagedorn, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach, and Pete Stauber refused to hold President Donald Trump accountable for betraying his oath of office and inciting an insurrection attempt against the United States government.
