It's International Word of the Day time again! Today's one is "Tsundoku", a Japanese expression meaning “leaving a book unread after buying it, typically piled up together with other unread books”. It's quite reassuring knowing there's a word out there for that...

'Yacht' comes from Dutch , specifically from a shortening of the compound word jaghtschip, literally a 'hunting ship'.
The jaght 'hunt' (spelled jacht in Modern Dutch) in this compound is related to German Jäger 'hunter' - and consequently to 'Jägermeister'.
A brilliant yet tragic Word of the Day: Litost (Czech), meaning the anguish we feel when someone accidentally reminds us, through their accomplishment, of everything that has gone wrong in our lives.

We love the Swedish word "Fika". It means to have a cup of tea/coffee, maybe some cake, and a good old chat. However, it's a lot more than just 'going for coffee'. It's an event, it's about companionship and stopping to take a pause.
